Mavis Edith Stromberg Nybo passed away August 2, 2023 in Payson, Utah. She was born January 27, 1930 in Grantsville, Utah to Rulon Swen Stromberg and Dorothy Alice Banks Stromberg. She was the eldest of 5 children: Arnold (Ben) Stromberg, Doreen Gowans, Laurel (Tuz) Salazar and Dorothy Callister. She had many friends and helped on the farm while growing up in Grantsville. She graduated from Grantsville High School in 1948. She attended BYU and graduated in 1952 with a degree in Elementary Education.
It was at BYU that she met her future husband, Dean, Strong Nybo. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 18, 1954. Mom’s primary focus in life was creating and raising a family. She was blessed with six children: Dean Alan Nybo, Brett Rulon Nybo, Kyle Conrad Nybo, Kurt Harvey Nybo, Shawn Emmett Nybo and Shelley Nybo Grohmann. She has 19 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother. Amazingly, she managed a household of nine, worked full-time, maintained a large garden (much of which she bottled), served faithfully in the church, and fulfilled social obligations seemingly without effort, moving from task to task seamlessly (when she wasn’t multitasking).
She taught many years in the Nebo School District, and even taught the children of many former students. She was loved by all. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. She always had a calling and over the years had too many callings to list. She was an avid genealogist and submitted hundreds of names (if not thousands) to the temple. She was also a temple worker for many years. She loved to learn and to travel. She visited every continent except Antarctica. She went to New York several times to enjoy the plays on Broadway.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dean, her sisters, Doreen and Laurel, her son, Shawn, and great grandson, Stylus Lee Paul Nybo.
There will be a viewing Sunday, August 6 from 6 to 8 PM at the Walker Funeral Home, 187 S. Main, Spanish Fork, Utah. Services will be held for her at her home church building 25 West Apple Blossom Way, Salem, Utah. Monday, August 7, 2023 at 11am. There will also be a viewing prior to the services (9:45 to 10:45 AM).
The family wishes to thank the staff at Orchard Hills Assisted living Center for the care and love that she experienced while there.
