Heaven called, and on the morning of October 14th, Matty answered.
Matthew Richard Grant was born on March 20th 1976 in Payson Utah to his mother, Carol and father, Richard Grant. Matty was full of life, born at 10lb 3.5oz – and a heart so big that left an impact on everyone he met.
Matty was born with a rare chromosome abnormality, but he never let that stop him from living a wholesome and adventurous life.
Matt enjoyed a childhood full of bowling, riding his tricycle, and going 4-wheeling with his dad, Marvin.
He won many medals while participating in The Special Olympics, and took great pride in the time he ran with the Special Olympics torch in Provo Utah.
Matty loved- life, hot dogs, Mac & Cheese, and cute girls. He had many friends, and was a local celebrity. He was named as one of Utah County’s Top 100 Citizens of Utah Valley.
Matt spent a lot of time at his dads side, but particularly enjoyed riding in the front seat of Marvs dump truck. Matthew enjoyed spending time with his mother, running errands, but mostly just shopping – he loved to shop.
He spent a lot of time with his mom at the bowling alley, and Utah County Jail – so much in fact, that they hired him.
Matt worked in the Code 7 Cafe at the County Jail, where he made many lifelong friendships with everyone he met. After 27 years, he retired on August 8 2025 – when they renamed the cafeteria to “Matty’s Code 7 Cafe”.
Matthew has made an unforgettable impact on everyone he crossed paths with. Carol & Marvin would like to thank the employees of Utah County that enhanced Matthews life here on earth. A special thank you to Heather Lyman, his loving hospice nurse & cousin. As well as his post home caregiver, Julie Babb. And his special friend, Tiena.
Matthew leaves behind his parents, Carol & Marvin Ainge, among many other extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his Grandparents, good friends Dan Downey, TJ Lamb, and Randy.
The viewing will be held on October 27th at Walker Funeral Home located at 187 South Main St. in Spanish Fork from 6-8pm. The service will be held on October 28th at 11:00am in the LDS Chapel on 1006 E. 200 S. In Spanish Fork, with a viewing beforehand from 9:30-10:30am.
Matthew will be buried at The Fairview Cemetery.
