Our beloved Matthew David Mellinger, age 17, returned to our Heavenly Father on January 19, 2023. He is the son of David and Leslie Mellinger of Spanish Fork, Utah.
Matthew was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 1, 2005.
He always thought he had a special birth date: 11/1. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He worked hard to earn his Faith in God award, and became a Deacon.
Matthew is survived by his parents, David and Leslie Mellinger; brothers McKay, Eric, James, and Ryan Mellinger; as well as many loving extended family members.
Growing up in both Spanish Fork and Harrisville, Utah, Matthew made friends quickly. He saw the good in others and sought to help and comfort. He was a great student, adept at math, reading, and writing. He loved to draw as well. He loved animals and nature.
His beloved cat, Jada was a comfort to him when life became difficult.
Matthew enjoyed camping and cooking and music very much. He even composed songs in his spare time. He had an entrepreneurial spirit. He wanted to produce music, start a business, and be out in the world in creative ways.
Matthew had a big heart. He was generous when he saw another’s need. He had great sympathy for others, because of his own difficult trials in life. He fought hard to be happy.
We are so grateful for his bright light and big heart. Being Matthew’s family is the greatest blessing and we eagerly await the day we can be together with him again.
Funeral Service will be Friday, January 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Spanish Fields 2nd Ward meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 99 North 920 West, Spanish Fork, Utah 84660. Prior to the funeral, there will be a visitation at the church that morning, where family and friends may gather from 9:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.
Interment will be at East Lawn Cemetery, Provo, Utah.

January 24, 2023 at 7:45 pmMatthew was a favorite nephew. He loved to go on motorcycle rides on my bike as a passenger. Our lunches were always fun, interesting and productive. I loved his entrepreneurial spirit and business ideas. I had dreams of helping him grow a new company some day. He could make me laugh and enjoy our time together. Going to miss that special young man deeply. God bless you Matthew!

January 25, 2023 at 6:21 amI don’t know how I will carry on without you. I thought you were going to see me graduate. I can just picture your proud face. I can’t stand not seeing you. I cry so much just thinking about all our memories. I just wish we had time to make more. I hope while I grow and progress physically and mentally you watch over me. I miss you.
