Maryann Christensen Swain 1960-2021
Our angel wife and mother, Maryann Christensen Swain (61), passed away on February 7, 2021 from complications after contracting COVID-19.
Maryann was born February 4, 1960 in American Fork, Utah to Joseph and Ada Christensen. A Spanish Fork native for most of her life, she graduated from Spanish Fork High School, enjoying activities like the yearbook committee. After high school graduation she completed courses at the then Utah Valley Technical College (now UVU) prior to serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Peru.
In December 1988 she met her husband, Troy, and not a month later they decided to spend their life together. They were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti Utah Temple on May 12, 1989. Family has always been important to them. The two co-taught family history classes and prioritized family gatherings and reunions. Being a mother was always Maryann’s greatest joy and they were blessed with two daughters, Lori and Rebecca.
Maryann was a busy woman, team-cooking with Troy for countless ward and stake events and traveling with their daughters all over the state to marching band competitions. In between it all, she worked as a Store Director for several different Maverik locations, spanning over 20 years with her “Maverik family”. She was always up early and stayed late, serving everyone with a smile. She rarely took time off, and when she did, that time was spent with her family. Nothing was more important to her than the happiness of her husband and daughters. She recently gained two sons and a granddaughter whom she loved from the moment they met.
She had a firm testimony in Jesus Christ and always found her way back to the Primary program, serving in primary presidencies and as a primary teacher for many, many years. Maryann was the quiet, selfless support – preferring to be in the background but always there. She was always willing to drop anything to help. She was one that would never look down on someone else, but instead would pick them up and help them find direction in life.
Maryann is survived by her husband Troy; two daughters Lori (Michael) Burt and Rebecca (Skyler) Snook; granddaughter Lexi Snook; siblings Darrell (Janell) Christensen and Shauna Holloway; five sisters-in-law Cathy (Red) Stirland, Suzette Carter, Allison (Russell) Lewis, Angela Anderson, and Jennifer (Rod) Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Ryan Anderson, nephew Dannie Carter, as well as many beloved cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and other family members.
Friends and family can pay their respects at a public viewing Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Walker Funeral Home (187 S. Main Street, Spanish Fork UT 84660). Family will have an additional viewing prior to the funeral at 9:45-10:45 am. Funeral services will be held on February 13, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Pine Meadows Ward building (1167 S. 1700 E. Spanish Fork, UT 84660) for family and close friends only, due to the nature of COVID-19 restrictions. Live-streaming of the service will be available at the link here: https://youtu.be/x2GfO4PnaVs
A short graveside service will follow with internment at Spanish Fork Cemetery. Please observe COVID protocol by wearing a face mask and observing social distancing at the viewing, services, and cemetery.
While Maryann always loved flowers, due to the unexpected nature of her death the family would appreciate any assistance with medical and funeral expenses.
