Mary Katherine Farr July 21, 1943 - June 11, 2021

Our amazing sweet wife, mother, and grandmother graduated from mortality to see her loving Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, whom she loved so much, on the beautiful morning of June 11, 2021, at her beloved home in Lake Shore, Utah.

Mary Katherine Saxey Farr was born July 21, 1943, in Provo, Utah, to Carl Raile and Mildred Peay Saxey. The third child of five, Mary loved her parents and siblings very much.

She learned to cook and sew from her mother and excelled at both throughout her life. She sewed most of her own clothes and also worked for many years sewing beautiful dresses at Jolene’s factory in Provo. Cooking was not only a love for Mary, but also an art, as she made the most amazing meals and baked goods to share with family, friends, and neighbors. She was also a 4-H leader in both cooking and sewing.

Mary graduated from Provo High School, where she was involved in many clubs and activities. She also attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah.

She met the love of her life, Kirk Farr, shortly after high school and they were married on January 4, 1963, in Heber City, Utah. After marriage, Kirk and Mary lived in a few different homes in Provo and Springville. In 1970, the Lord led them to Lake Shore, where they not only found their beloved home, but many welcoming neighbors who became dear friends and helped teach them more about Jesus Christ. This Christlike love led them to be sealed in the Provo Utah Temple on April 18,1980.

Mary and Kirk were blessed with four sons and two daughters. Mary always tried to teach her family to love God and love each other. She always put her family first and loved being able to be a homemaker for her husband and children. She adored her grandchildren and always had an ice cream cone ready to serve to them whenever they would visit. She liked music and encouraged her children to sing and learn to play musical instruments. Mary’s favorite family vacations included camping, reunions with extended family, deer hunts, and traveling in Utah, and surrounding states with the trailer in tow. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling to Arizona with her husband and the rest of the Snowbirds. In 1992, Mary and Kirk purchased camping property which they named “The Land not too Farr” so they could cherish time with each other and their growing family.

Mary was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings in the Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society. She loved these callings but mostly loved just randomly ministering to ward members and neighbors. She would take cards, gifts, meals and baked goods as she visited the sick, the new neighbors, or anyone she felt inspired to visit. She truly loved people and tried to see everyone as a son or daughter of God.

Mary especially loved serving with her husband, Kirk, in the Provo Utah Temple and on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at the Heber Valley Girls Camp, from April 2007 – October 2008.

Mary was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was very proud to be a member of this organization and loved attending meetings and reading histories. She loved honoring her ancestors and always made a point to put flowers on graves during Memorial Day.

Mary was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer in 1985, and again in 2001. After going through many medical treatments in her life, she became interested in herbs and natural treatments to heal the body. She took classes through The School of Natural Healing and became a Master Herbalist in 2005, to not only help herself and her family, but her friends and community.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Kirk; children: Gregory Don, Lance David (Tanya), SuZette Thomas (Russ), Sharri Peine (Brant), Seth Kirk (Tara), Brett Justin (Melissa); 20 grandkids, and 3 (almost 4) great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, David Saxey; sisters JoAnn Syme and Maureen Lindsay; and many other nieces, nephews, and in-laws whom Mary loved. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Reid Saxey; and grandson, Tyler James Thomas.
