Mary Elizabeth “Dink” Corey returned to her Heavenly Father on January 29, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with cirrhosis and liver failure, surrounded by her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She always sought ways to serve others, even with the limitations that were placed on her because of her illness.
Mary was born on March 4, 1970 to James Richard and Elizabeth Lane “Libby” Brown in Jacksonville, FL. As her father was in the Navy, Mary lived in many places growing up from Florida to Great Lakes, Illinois before finally settling in Virginia Beach, VA. When her mother married Leroy Pratt, she moved with them to Provo, Utah where she graduated from high school. Growing up she enjoyed participating in sports such as softball and field hockey. She also loved swimming and being in the water whether it was in a pool or at the beach. She also developed a great love of music and performing. She had a spectacular singing voice which she used both in choir and in a band she formed with friends.
She married Jon Schmidt in 1988 and they had two children, William and Lindsey. They later divorced. She met Matthew Frank Corey in the summer of 1991 when they quickly fell in love. They were married for time in the Manti Temple on September 27, 1991. They were later sealed in the Manti temple in January 1992.
She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she enjoyed serving in Relief Society, Sunday School, and Achievement Days along with any service that she could find to do. She had a deep love for and personal relationship with the Savior and her Heavenly Father. She always sought to be active in the Gospel even when her body limited her from attending church. She worked for many years as a CNA at various skilled nursing facilities in Utah and Colorado, a job which she loved and which showcased the compassionate soul that she was. She also served on the Payson City Planning Commission as a Commissioner from 2000 to 2001.
She is preceded in death by her beloved step-father Leroy P. Pratt, her parents Elizabeth Lane Pratt and James Richard Brown, and her daughter Lindsey Hope (Austin) Crawford with whom she is enjoying a wonderful reunion. She is survived by her husband Matthew F. Corey; son William P. Schmidt; son-in-law Austin Crawford; son David (Sydney) Corey; son Michael (Chelsey) Corey; daughter Jessica Corey; son (in a very round-about way) David (Caylee) Briggs; sisters Cindy (Carl) Uda, Carol Beardsley, Cathy Wells, and Pam (Scott) Peltier; brother Rick (Tish) Brown along with her many grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, February 6th and from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, February 7th at the Stake Center on 711 South Peteetneet Blvd (600 East), Payson, UT followed by the funeral at 11:00 AM all under the direction of Walker Funeral Home, Payson, UT. Interment will be at the Payson City Cemetery.

January 31, 2020 at 9:38 pmNo words can relieve the of a loss of a loved one. I remember this beautiful lady as a small cute little girl. She always did her best to keep up with the big kids. I know if my mother was still around she would be broken hearted. I can remember Mom talking about Dinky. When we visited them or they visited us it was glorious chaos with all the kids. Mom said Dinky would crawl into her lap and just watch the mayhem.
We eventually moved away due to being a military family but this family was always special in my heart. I think after losing my parents in the last few years this lady hurts the most. I know she is surrounded by family who have gone before, but that doesn’t make losing her any easier.
Love and God’s blessings on her and her family she leaves behind. Her husband and lovely kids, Cindy, Carolann, Ricky, Kathy and Pam know that I am thinking of you now and forever!!!!!!!!
