Marvin Blackburn Livestream Broadcast

Marvin Leroy Blackburn, most well known as Carvin Marvin passed away peacefully at his home on January 13, 2025, in Spanish Fork Utah. Born on December 2, 1942, in Salem, Utah to Alfred and Elsie Blackburn. Marvin was a long-time resident of Spanish Fork, Utah.

Marvin married the love of his life Barbara Lu Ewell on February 10, 1964. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple on January 14, 1966. Together they had 6 children, and a foster child Sylvia, whom they loved as their own.  They also opened their home to many of the neighborhood children, treating them as if they were their own.

Marvin attended Spanish Fork High School and Trade Tech in Provo, Utah where he excelled in auto body work. In 1962 he joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Ord in California. After serving he worked 34 years at Reilly Industries in the maintenance department. When Reilly Industries closed their doors in Utah, Marvin chose not to move his family out of the state and obtained new employment in the janitorial department with Nebo School District. He worked for the school district for 15 years.

Marvin is survived by his wife Barbara, daughters Vivian Mitchell, Lori (Jim) Gabbitas, Christina (John) Bicknell, and Patricia (Brian) Woodard. 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and 1 grand fur baby and a sister-in-law Janiel Jensen.

Marvin is proceeded in death by both parents, sons Kent Blackburn and Rodney Leroy Blackburn and a baby girl. Brothers Delbert, Clyde, Dean, Jack, Gary and Joe. Sisters Wanda and Shirley.

Marvin dedicated many years of his life to the Scouting program, where he served in various leadership roles including Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, and Merit Badge Specialist. His passion for Scouting was evident in the countless hours he spent guiding young men to achieve the esteemed rank of Eagle Scout. For Marvin, Scouting was more than just a program—it was a way to inspire young people to develop character, responsibility, and leadership.

He devoted much of his vacation time to scout campouts, often using his time away from work to create lasting memories and provide invaluable experiences to the Scouts he mentored. His love for Scouting extended beyond his local troop as he was a regular participant at Timberline, where he made lasting friendships and continued his dedication to the values of Scouting.

Marvin’s exceptional contributions to Scouting were recognized with several prestigious honors, including the Wood Badge and the Silver Beaver, awards that reflect his outstanding leadership, dedication, and service to the Scouting community.

Carvin Marvin carved almost 3,000 bolo ties for Scouts in the community. He had a special eagle bolo tie that only Eagle Scouts received.

Marvin was proud to serve as Santa’s helper for several years, a role he cherished deeply. For many, he embodied the spirit of “the real” Santa, spreading joy and warmth wherever he went. His greatest joy came from seeing the sparkle in children’s eyes as they shared their Christmas wishes with him. Marvin delighted in singing carols and creating magical memories, always ensuring that every child felt special during the holiday season. His love for this role brought happiness to countless families and will be fondly remembered by all who experienced his festive spirit.

Marvin enjoyed woodworking, collecting Eagles and models of classic cars and trucks. His yard was decorated for many holidays with Christmas being the biggest display. For many years he also put together a Christmas village display that brought joy to all that came to visit.

The family would like to thank his nurse Paige for the care she provided and the love she showed Marvin. She held a special place in his heart and will always hold a place in ours as well.

Just finished a book on my life stories where one of the questions is what people had the most influence on you as a child growing up, this guy was one of the few people besides my parents that I can say made a difference in my life and use the life lessons learned through him. I was fortunate enough to be one of the first few guys in Troop 119 and 13th ward to obtain the rank of an Eagle Scout Thanks to this guy, Marv
