Marlene N. McBeth May 11, 1931 - August 19, 2021

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, Marlene Blanche Nielsen McBeth, passed away on August 19, 2021, at the age of 90. She was loved and cherished by family, friends, and neighbors.

Marlene was born May 11, 1931, in Spanish Fork, Utah, to Harvey Alexander Nielsen and Blanche Holt. Blessed to grow up in a home filled with love and music, she was the fifth daughter in a family of five daughters and one son.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings at the branch, ward and stake level in Music, Primary, Young Women, Relief Society and as a Seminary teacher.

After graduating from Spanish Fork High School in 1949, she attended Brigham Young University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics in 1953. She taught Home Economics at Tintic High School in Eureka, Utah, and at Fremont County Vocational High School in Lander, Wyoming. She was an excellent seamstress, providing clothing for herself and family members.

Marlene married Albert Ray McBeth on November 21, 1952, in the Salt Lake City Utah Temple. Five children were born to Ray and Marlene: three sons and two daughters. She excelled as a mother and homemaker blessing her family and all who knew her with her strong faith in Christ, sweet smile, listening ear, and kind and generous nature. Her 18 grandchildren and 43 (soon to be 44) great-grandchildren adored her, leaving a legacy of Christ-like love and service. Her legacy is her pure love toward others and selfless and endless service toward those in need. She was an Angel among us.

Marlene is survived by four children: Jerry (Cheryl Johnson) of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Kent (Karen Baker) of South Jordan, UT; Jeanine (Boyd Swenson) of West Jordan, UT; and Carolyn (Dennis Crawford) of Provo, UT; sisters: Janet Hansen of Fair Oaks, CA; Gladys Hibbert of La Grande, OR; and brother, Holt Nielsen of Idaho Falls, ID. Preceded in death by husband, Ray; parents, Harvey and Blanche; sisters, Olive Marie Gonzalez and Barbara Davis; and her son, Richard McBeth.

Marlene was a wonderful neighbor and Relief Society teacher in Spanish Fork. She kindly impacted everyone who knew her. We planted red Canna Lily bulb starts from her yard for several years and shared them with more neighbors. They bloom throughout the ward and remind us of Marlene and Albert. My husband Ben and I both work at BYU with Carolyn and Dennis. I was delighted when I learned that Carolyn was Marlene’s daughter and knew she was in good hands. Each time I see the family home in Spanish Fork, I’m reminded of my good neighbors who have now both moved on to live in heaven.

About Marlene and Ray: They were such good people. They were a close couple and did a lot together. They had that lovely home just across the street. I know how it is to be 90 years old and older and I am happy she is with Ray.

I admired Marlene as a beautiful, gracious, intelligent person. I remember when she and Ray were able to buy her beautiful childhood home. She was an excellent homemaker, skilled seamstress, and good cook. We served together briefly in the church, and had precious friendships in our little “Cultura Club” . Don was home teacher to her and Ray for some time, and I enjoyed going with him on some of his visits. I’m glad I could rub shoulders with Marlene.
