Mark Farrell Van Voorhis, age 78, of Spanish Fork, Utah, passed away from heart disease on June 10, 2026 surrounded by family. He was born on December 23, 1947 in Anderson, Indiana to Emmett Howard Van Voorhis and Lucy Christine Riggs Van Voorhis.
He graduated from high school in Anderson and went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts in History from Indiana University followed by a Master’s Degree in Education. Mark served in the Army as a First Lieutenant in Fort Campbell, Kentucky as a communications officer.
Mark married Joan Louise Liebermann in 1970. They are the parents of six children – Vanessa (Heber), Megan (Reynolds), Dabney (Egendoerfer), Caleb, Kristin (Anderson), and Joshua. They raised their children in Joan’s hometown of Massillon, Ohio where Mark worked hard to provide for his family. He had a long career in purchasing for the Volvo company, and eventually moved his family back to Indiana and later to Utah where he was able to utilize his teaching degree before his retirement.
He had a lifelong passion for politics and served as a Massillon City Councilman for fourteen years. He served faithfully in church callings and enthusiastically coached his sons in little league baseball. He supported his children in achieving their dreams, taught them to work hard, loved fiercely, and forgave freely.
Mark loved reading and writing and had a gift for poetry. He co-wrote and published a book titled The Well House, set during the Vietnam War at his Alma Mater, Indiana University.
He is known for laughing until he cried, his positive attitude, and his giving nature. He has loved living in Utah for the last twenty years where he could enjoy an abundance of live theater, excellent restaurants, and his grandchildren’s athletics and musical performances. He was an active member of the Spanish Fork First Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and loved his bishop and ward family and neighbors.
Mark looked forward to a joyful reunion in heaven with his loving parents, his sister, Beverly, and brother, Norman, as well as his beloved aunts and uncles and his best friend and cousin, John Griffith.
He is survived by the mother of his six children, Joannie, his children, their spouses, and 16 grandchildren. Mark was fond of saying, “Family is everything”.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all of the staff at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center for their excellent care.
There will be a memorial service located at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints chapel at 310 E Center St Spanish Fork, Utah for family and friends on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 11:00am. You can watch his services with this link: Memorial Service for Mark Van Voorhis
