Mark Dwayne Walker April 12, 1956 - May 27, 2021

On May 27, 2021, Mark Dwayne Walker from Salem, Utah was finally able to go on his second mission, the one he always talked and dreamed about. Mark was so excited that his heart could not handle it anymore and leapt for joy at his call to serve. We know his heart did break at leaving his wife a.k.a “Lover” (his words, not ours) Vickie Lyn Miller Walker. Their children (the only reason he had us was to have grandkids) Josie “Sis”, (Dustin “Sir”) Van Orman, Beau “Buddy” Walker, Sammy “Nubbins” Walker and 8 grand kids (his entire world, sorry Mom!) Maggie “Maggie Moodles”, (Kaden “Bud”) Wiese, Mitchell “Sport” Van Orman, Gibb “Gibbers” Van Orman, Gracie “Sweetheart” Van Orman, Sophie “Toad” Van Orman, Gunner “Gunner Bun” Hall, Paizlie “Sweetpea” Hall, plus parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and, let’s face it, everyone reading this.
Mark was one of those lucky ones who was greeted with a huge hug from our Savior and brother, Jesus Christ, along with his grandparents, mother-in-law (we bet she got him with her pink lipstick kiss), aunts, uncles… Oh, just check on FamilySearch.com.
The world welcomed Mark on April 12th, 1956, to Wayne D. and Joy Elaine Cullis Walker, in Murry, Utah, pretty much already reading, which was a good thing, because education was such an important part of his life. Working his way up to becoming a Doctor of Business Administration at California Coast University and finally landing at Tooele Technical College (TTC) as the Director of Custom Fit and Post, which he loved every minute of it, just not the long drive.
Once his club from the good ol’ Caveman days at American Fork Highschool was hung up, Mark put on his mission tag and headed to the Orient. Tokyo, Japan where for once in his life he finally felt tall.
Some may say that Friday the 13th is not very lucky. But, for Mark it was, that was the day he met his eternal Foxy Lady Vickie. It did take Mom by surprise that Dad looked like the 1977 Luke Skywalker who could do the cross on the gymnastic rings while wearing his fourth degree black belt. Singing their way to “We’ve only Just Begun”. Six short months later on June 27th 1978 they were sealed for Time and all Eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple.
In life, kids would come as they often do Josie, Beau, and Sammy Jo. Mark loved his kids but again, we know full well he only had us just to get his grandkids. While growing up we are guessing, for sanity reasons, he took up shooting, scuba diving and travel. Dad did share his love of these adventures with us and his grandkids. Family was super important to Mark, it didn’t matter if you were blood or not. YOU were loved Unconditionally!
Because Mark Loved so unconditionally, his ability to serve in so many different callings from ward to bishop to stake and temple exemplified Christlike Love. Walking down the halls in Church or the Temple you couldn’t get away from Mark without getting a smile, a compliment or more than likely a hug. Man, could that Mighty Man make you feel special!
He has three sisters and one brother, Kathy (Mike) Hickenbotham, Marcie Janzen, Bryce (Leslie) Walker, and Traci Jo (Steve) Hamilton.

When I’m asked to think of someone who is a “role model” or “mentor”, Mark is the person who comes to mind. He always knew the right things to say when I was struggling. He exuded Christlike love. And he loved to have fun. May you be blessed with comfort as we grieve the loss and celebrate his life.

    Vickie,
I’m so grateful to be able to call you friend,. I only got to meet Mark 2 or 3 times. Those times have not been forgotten. It was such an inspiration to see the love and respect the two of you had for each other. I also loved seeing his genuine love for others. I pray you will be surrounded by the love Mark had for you and more importantly, the tender mercy of feeling our Savior’s arms and love around you. You are in my prayers

The obituary was so very touching. Mark and I were both in the same mission in Tokyo Japan and I had the pleasure of being in the same branch with him. Mark was a wonderful missionary. I have had the pleasure of spending time with Mark since Japan in several classes and having lunch with him. Mark was always the man that you would not see for several years and then catch up where you left off. He will be missed. I shed tears reading of his passing, and realize he will be so happy to be with those on the other side that have missed him as well. My love to you who are left here on earth.
    Sincerely,
    Brad Peay

Bishop and Sister Walker were so wonderful to my brother, Duane and our family when Duane’s wife and children were killed in a tragic car accident. I will be forever grateful to them for their genuine love and service. I am sure Crystal and the kids have already hugged him for what he did for their husband and dad. God bless the Walker family.

Mark was a great man. I’ll miss the days of being greeted with a hearty “Hey neighbor!” whenever we happened to see each other outside. He always had a huge smile on his face. I wish I had taken the time to get to know him better. It would not have been time wasted. My condolences to your family. If you ever need anything, I’m literally right next door.

Well Vickie life is full of surprises! I was very surprised to see of Marks passing. I enjoyed my time with him when I was on the MATC board. And it was even better when I found out he was your hubby. I was sad when he moved on to other ACTs. Sorry Vickie for your loss. Mark made life very enjoyable.
