Marion James Hancock, 68, passed away on August 19, 2021, at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah, surrounded by his beloved family. Marion was born January 21, 1953, to Irving Zenos Hancock and Lillie Wendel, in Spanish Fork. He married the love of his life, Sharlene Carroll, June 19, 1975 in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Marion grew up in Spanish Fork. He achieved the Eagle Boy Scout rank. He and his brother, Paul, loved building go-carts. They both played in the band in high school. He graduated from Spanish Fork High school in 1971.
He had a pet raccoon, shortly after getting married, named Ricky. Ricky was released into the wild after growing to adulthood.
Marion was a mechanic for 11 years. Then he worked at Trojan Explosives in Spanish Fork, where he got into the Information Technology field. He then worked at Alcoa / Sapa in Information Technology until he retired. He had two of his sons work with him in IT. One of his favorite things to do when working with Dave was to jump out and startle him.
He loved attending all of his grandchildren’s activities and sports. He had a huge love for Christmas and taught his whole family to love it, too.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the gospel.

August 25, 2021 at 5:00 pmMarion was a classmate of mine. I don’t think I’ve seen him since high school but as I remember him he was nice and had a good smile. I was happy to read that his life was well lived. My condolences to his family.

August 26, 2021 at 2:12 amI am sad to hear of Marion’s passing. I am a first cousin; my Dad and Marion’s Mom were siblings. I was alot younger than Marion, so we didn’t do much together. But I do remember once when his family spent the night at our house. I was probably 8 or 9. Ron, my older brother and I woke up early to go talk with Marion and Paul who slept on our living room floor. It must have been early, because no one else was around and there was time for Marion and Paul to teach us how to play Chess. I remember how thrilled I was for these older cousins to spend time with us— but looking back now, I could have been considered a pest! I also have some memories of visiting years ago with Aunt Pearl as we delivered Christmas Presents. (Like 45 years ago!). I am sad that we have not kept in touch. The funeral was a great tribute to a great man! I’m thankful I was able to listen in over Zoom. Although I live in Centerville, Utah, I am currently in Spring, Texas with my daughter. Thank you for broadcasting the service. Sending love to the family!

September 16, 2021 at 10:14 pmI worked with Marion during the Alcoa / SAPA days. He was an absolute kind and warm individual! I was startled to see this obituary as I didn’t believe he was at a point to be leaving us so soon!
To his Family, know that he lived and loved in honor. He will be missed by so many! I pray each of his Family members will receive the comfort and understanding needed to endure this difficult time!
