Marilyn Croshaw Haycock (92) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at her home in Draper, Utah, due to causes incident to age.
Marilyn was born to Frank Petty and Emma Amelia Olson Croshaw on January 23, 1931, at the family home in Arimo, Idaho. She is the fifth of nine children – four sons and five daughters – in the Croshaw family. Marilyn grew up in Pocatello, Idaho, where she attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Franklin Junior High School, and Pocatello High School from which she graduated in June 1949. After one year of school at Idaho State College and two years working at Smith Insurance and Realty in both Pocatello and Idaho Falls, in 1952 Marilyn moved to Washington D.C. to work as a secretary in the office of Senator Henry Dworshak, the senior senator from Idaho. During her years in Washington D.C., Marilyn lived in a rented home on Adams Mill Road with nine roommates, many of whom remained dear friends throughout her life. Marilyn served as a full-time missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Great Lakes Mission.
In 1953, before her mission, Marilyn met Bevan Orlando Haycock in Washington D.C. Following her service as a full-time missionary, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 27, 1956. Marilyn and Bevan lived in Mexico City, Mexico for two years before moving to Provo, Utah, and then Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Bevan attended graduate school. In 1964, they moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, where they lived for 28 years and raised their family. In 1992, they moved to Spanish Fork, Utah. Since 2021, Marilyn lived in Draper, Utah.
Marilyn lived the gospel of Jesus Christ and loved being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. In addition to her missionary service in the Great Lakes Mission (1954-1956), with Bevan she served two additional missions: mission leaders of the Chile Santiago North Mission (1982-1984), and assistant to the matron of the Santo Domingo Dominican Republic Temple (2000-2001). For her many years of service to boys and young men in the scouting program, Marilyn received the Silver Beaver Award from the Yucca Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Marilyn served as ward Relief Society president (twice), stake Relief Society counselor, and ward and stake Young Women president. She and Bevan served together as ordinance workers in the Provo Utah Temple for almost 20 years.
Marilyn was happiest when she was cooking or quilting for her family. She made more than 100 quilts, most of them for her children and grandchildren. During their years in Spanish Fork, Marilyn prepared and served Sunday dinner at their home for their grandchildren who were attending BYU. These gatherings with her family brought her immense joy.
Marilyn and Bevan made their family their highest priority in life, and Marilyn’s greatest joy in life was time spent with her family. She is survived by their six children: Carla (Craig Farnsworth) of Midway, Utah; Matthew Bevan (Dixie Simonis) of Beaverton, Oregon; Camille (Timothy Croxton) of Littleton, Colorado; Douglas Reed (Kathy Kraft) of Sedalia, Colorado; Lyle Byron (Tammy Sadler) of Mapleton, Utah; and Margaret (Judson Smedley) of Draper, Utah. Marilyn is also survived by all their 25 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren, and by her sisters Leah Rush of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Ruth Ann Phillips of Middleton, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her husband Bevan, her parents Frank and Amelia, and six of her siblings: Charles Edward Croshaw, Dorothy Blackhurst, Lola Fiala, Frank Peter Croshaw, Vaughn Arden Croshaw, and Mark Austin Croshaw.
A viewing will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023, 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Wolf Hollow 1st Ward meetinghouse located at 870 East Canyon Road, Spanish Fork, Utah. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, 11:00am, also at the Wolf Hollow 1st Ward meetinghouse. A viewing prior to the funeral service will be held on Saturday, 9:45 – 10:45am. March 11, 2023 at 3:01 pmMarilyn was our neighbor for 8 years! She and Bevan we’re always happy and cheerful! After Bevan passed she would occasionally sit on her porch in the sunshine. If I noticed I would sometimes feel obligated to stop what I was doing and go talk to her- because she was old or lonely, but every time I did, I left being the one who was served. She taught me many great life lessons, and was always encouraging me as a mother and telling me I have a wonderful family. She was a great friend and a wonderful example. I am so happy she is now reunited with Bevan again! My husband wants to be like Bevan when he grows up! I’m only sad we were out of town and couldn’t come to the funeral! We love you Marilyn! And can’t wait to see you again! ❤️

March 15, 2023 at 1:01 amYour Mother was my biggest support when I went to graduate school in Las Cruces. I depended on her help. I remember your family fondly. I watched your funeral service online on am glad that everyone seems to be doing all right. You were a beautiful family. I remember Doug and Kathy Kraft and Camille and Margaret the most, but I also remember the faithfulness of Carla and Matt and Lyle. May you feel the Saviour’s peace. Anna Lee Wilson
