Spanish Fork, UT: Marie Hales Zabriskie, 82, passed away suddenly in her home on the morning of October 8th, 2022. Marie was born February 9th, 1940, in Salem, UT to Harry H. Hales and Mae Nelson Hales. She married Thomas R. Zabriskie in July 1959 in the Salt Lake City LDS temple. They lived in Salt Lake City, Rochester, NY and Watertown, MA before returning in 1972 to live in Palmyra. They later divorced.
Marie was raised and educated in Spanish Fork and later attended Business School in Salt Lake City. Her working career included time in the office of the Utah Valley Livestock Auction, several years in the office of Drs. Kent and Brent Hansen’s dental practice and she spent over 20 years working in the human resources department at Nature’s Sunshine Products.
The focal point of Marie’s life was her family. In addition to being devoted to her three sons and their families, Marie’s selfless devotion to supporting those she loved was underscored by the years of care she provided for both her father and mother as they aged and required greater assistance to remain living in the home they loved. In the latter years of her life, Marie was overjoyed with caring for and playing with her great grandchildren.
Marie also enjoyed the opportunities she had to travel with friends and family and especially loved seeing the fall leaves in New England and the Wasatch mountains. Getting together with her many friends and classmates was very important to her and she always enjoyed the weekly lunches with ‘the girls’.
Serving in the LDS church was another of Marie’s passions. She was an active member of the LDS wards she attended and served in numerous support and leadership positions. Marie was an active volunteer in the Payson LDS temple.
Marie is survived by her three sons, Mark (Tracy) Zabriskie of Corvallis, OR; Paul (Patti) Zabriskie of St. George, UT; and Dean (Clancey) Zabriskie of Spanish Fork, UT; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Brent (Dorothy) Hales of Riverton, UT and Mont (Rose) Hales of Spanish Fork, UT as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
At Marie’s request, a private family burial service will be held. She will be interred in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery with arrangements by Walker Funeral Home of Spanish Fork.

October 12, 2022 at 3:12 pmMy deepest sympathy for your family with the loss of a sweet lady. I don’t have many childhood memories that don’t include your family. She was extremely nice with always a kind word. Recently in the past few years she was found attending many funerals in Palmyra paying her respects to those that she had made lasting friendships with. She would always light up and smile when I would ask about her family. She will be surely missed.

October 12, 2022 at 3:16 pmMy heart is sad to hear of Marie’s passing. I have always admired her kindness, goodness and thoughtfulness. She was so good to my dad when she worked for him. My mom and dad lived and appreciated her so much. She was good at getting to know people. I was always amazed how she could remember the names of my children and would ask Larry and I how they were doing. It was fun to cross paths with her at Nature’s Sunshine when I would stop by to see Larry. It always brightened my day to be around Marie. I love her smile and her positive attitude. I’m so sorry for your loss. What a big hole she leaves in your lives. You were very blessed to have Marie as your mom and grandma. You will be in our thoughts and prayers Zabriskie family.

October 12, 2022 at 5:25 pmIt breaks my heart to hear of Marie’s passing. I worked with her for many years at Nature’s Sunshine and she was my mentor. She has such a kind heart and taught me so many things, all based on her willingness to treat everyone with love and respect and go above and beyond in everything she did. Marie was loved by So Many and I was Thankfully able to see her quite often after she left the company, as we both volunteered at the Payson Temple. Love this beautiful Lady and will Miss her dearly. My Heart goes out to the family, and I pray for comfort during this difficult time.

October 14, 2022 at 7:01 amMarie has been such a wonderful friend to me…not only when we lived through the block from her in Spanish Fork but after we moved to St. George as well. Marie was my “steady date” for many years when Carl was working at one of the many festivities held in Spanish Fork. She and I attended more parades, concerts, quilt shows, county fairs etc. that I can count. We called each other every month in the past eight years since we moved away. She is so thoughtful, loving, kind and we shared many good laughs! What a LADY!
Carl was Harry and Mae’s home teacher for decades with our sons as his partner. When the boys grew up and moved away, I became his partner. We LOVED visiting with the Harry, Mae and Marie and love them all so dearly.
I will miss my dear friend! How blessed I am to have had Marie in my life!
