Marie Bowen Tanner, beloved wife, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family who loved her dearly.
Marie was born November 16, 1950, in Spanish Fork, Utah.
She was the 5th girl of Earl L. Bowen and Tess G. Bowen.
Marie graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1969. After high school she attended Utah Tech in Provo, Utah and then graduated in nursing, receiving her LPN degree in 1972. Marie worked in labor and delivery for 38 years. The last 9 years was at Mountain View Hospital in Payson.
Marie had always loved babies since she was little, but could never have any of her own, so she felt fortunate to be able to work with new babies every day and get paid for it. Marie was a wonderful support with her patients; many who have been family.
Marie met and married Douglas G. Leavitt on December 27, 1969. They later divorced. Marie met and married her second husband Kenneth G. Wells on December 2, 1977. In 1980 Ken and Marie adopted an 11-month-old baby girl. They named her Shantell. Ken and Marie divorced in 1986. One year later, in 1987, Marie met a tall blond handsome man. Ken had been married before and brought 7 wonderful children into Marie’s life. She became an instant grandmother to three cute kids, with many more to follow. Ken and Marie married on January 14, 2002. They have been together for 38 wonderful years.
Grandma Marie bought everything from under the sun, especially if items were on sale. We all called her house “Grandma Closet”. If we needed something, just go to Grandma’s closet and it would be there.
Anyone that was familiar with Marie knew that you were welcome to visit. Grandma Marie always kept the candy drawer stocked with tons of goodies for all the kids and grandkids. We knew where to go as soon as we walked through the front door.
Marie had a sharp memory right up until the end. She could tell you the exact location of an item she put in a drawer or cupboard whether it was recent or 20 years ago.
You never had to wonder where you stood with Marie. She always spoke with truth and honesty. She has so much love and pride for her family. Marie thought of everyone before herself. She made sure that family came first.
Marie is survived by her husband Kenneth Tanner, and her children Shantel Wells, Stacy (Rick) Morrill (deceased), Kimberlee (Doug) Hopes, Kenneth (Norah) Tanner, Diana Lynn (Russ) Mecham, Jodi (Scott) Brumfield, Jennie Jackson, and Mark Tanner. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her sisters Maxine (Greg) Christensen and Barbara Jorgensen.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents Earl and Tess Bowen, a brother Jack Bowen, sisters Bonnie and Afton Mary and a daughter Stacy Morrill.
A visitation will be held in Marie’s honor on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home located at 187 South Main St., Spanish Fork, UT. An additional visitation will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. at the same location and it will be immediately followed by funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. also located at Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork.
