Margriet Foutz Livestream Broadcast

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margriet Boogaard Foutz, beloved wife, mother, and Oma. Following a two-year journey with pancreatic cancer, she passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, on January 13, 2025,

Margriet was born July 8,1954, in The Hague, Netherlands. She and her parents immigrated to the United States the following year, where they settled in Southern California. She was an avid reader growing up, and held a life-long passion for learning. After graduating from Montebello High School in 1972, she pursued her higher education at both East Los Angeles Community College and Brigham Young University. She also worked for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Salt Lake City.  Between schooling, work, and young adult life, she grew in knowledge, experience, and faith.  This led to her choice to serve a mission in 1979 for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Germany Munich Mission.   After her mission she pursued her education at Southern Utah State College and Brigham Young University.  She worked at the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University in cataloging.

A few years following her mission, she met and fell in love with Eric Foutz. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 20, 1987, and together they welcomed five children into the world. They always strived to build a life upon principles of love and faith in Jesus Christ. Through all of life’s challenges and joys, they remained each other’s steadfast support. After starting their family in American Fork, Utah, they moved to Mapleton, Utah in 1997.

Margriet continued her love of learning through fostering her children’s talents and interests. She made many trips with her kids to the library, enrolled them in music lessons, swimming lessons, art class, dance class, and made sure they each had the opportunity to sign up for two different sports each year. If a child decided a sport or class wasn’t for them, she didn’t pressure them to continue (the only exception being piano).

Margriet was an active member of her community, participating in quilting and book clubs, city programs, volunteering as a tutor at the elementary school, and giving service in a variety of church callings. She also loved family history, working regularly at the local Family History Center. Through everything, she never liked being the center of attention or the life of the party. She had an amazing gift for forming deep and meaningful connections with individuals. Her quiet example of kindness, service, and gentle humor has led to many lasting friendships, and always mirrored the Savior’s example of ministering to the one.

As much as she loved her roles of wife and mother, Margriet loved watching our family expand these past 12 years. She held a special place in her heart for her daughters-in-law, and she cherished her role as Oma to eight grandchildren (and counting). We know that she will continue to play an active role in each of our lives from the other side.

Margriet is survived by her husband, Eric, their five children: Spencer (Jenny), Matthew (Chelsea), Nathan (Kate), Benjamin (Jessica), Sarah, and eight grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Terry (John) Davis, Debbie Jay, and Adriaan Boogaard. She is preceded in death by her parents, Johannes and Margaretha Boogaard.

A visitation to honor Margriet’s life will be held on Sunday evening, January 19, from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 825 East Hawks Rest Dr, Mapleton, Utah. An additional visitation will be held the following morning of January 20,2025, at the same church building from 9:45-10:45 AM. Her funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Mapleton Cemetery located at 620 West Maple St, Mapleton, Utah.
