Margie Stewart Downey, our sweet wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at the age of 70. She was born in Spanish Fork, Utah on April 23, 1949 to Orla Bert and Margaret Ashworth Stewart. She grew up in Palmyra, Utah, graduating from Spanish Fork High School in 1967. She married Douglas Sheridan Downey on May 25, 1969. They were later sealed in the Provo Temple. Her life was her family and was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She loved to attend her grandchildren’s sports events, dance recitals and musical performances.
Margie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in many capacities but especially loved serving the young women and relief society sisters. She loved her Wednesday movies and many trips around the world with her club friends. Her summers were filled with ball games, parades and she loved to celebrate Fiesta Days. She loved party planning and decorating for anyone who asked.
Her family was her greatest joy and she will be greatly missed. Margie and Doug had 4 children; Leslie (Sid) Jorgensen of Salem, Utah, Tricia (Jens) Nielson of Spanish Fork, Chad (Sonja) Downey of Lindon, Utah and Brad (Lindsey) Downey of Spanish Fork, Utah. Margie was the proud Grandma of 11 grandchildren and the GiGi of 4 great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, children and two brothers, Phil (Marilyn) Stewart and Shirl (Anita) Stewart.
She is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Robert Stewart, Barry Stewart and Dell Stewart.
The family would like to thank IHC Hospice for their love and attention to our wife and mother as they helped guide us through this difficult time.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the Aspen Meadows LDS chapel located at 1661 South 1400 East, Spanish Fork, UT 84660 at 11:00 am. A viewing will be held on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Walker Funeral Home located at 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, UT 84660 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm or at the Aspen Meadows LDS chapel 9:45 to 10:45 am prior to the funeral services. Burial will be in the Spanish Fork Cemetery.
