Margaret Sumsion Livestream Broadcast

Margaret Stanworth Sumsion, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born on November 19, 1938, in Oasis, Utah, to Joseph Edward Stanworth and Margaret Alverta Peterson Stanworth.

Margaret grew up in the close-knit community of Oasis, where she learned the values of hard work, faith, and kindness that she carried throughout her life. She graduated from Delta High School, where she made lasting friendships and developed a love for learning and creativity.

She worked for Clover Club, Forsey’s Variety Store, and served in Food Service for over 20 years with Nebo School District, where she was affectionately known as the “lunch lady.” Her dedication and cheerful presence left a lasting impression on generations of students.

While living with her sister, Margaret was introduced to her future husband, Alan Finch Sumsion, by her brother-in-law. The two became inseparable and were married on July 1, 1961, in Oasis, Utah. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and service. Their marriage of 57 years was filled with love and laughter, and they were later sealed in the Logan, Utah temple.

Margaret loved embroidery and won numerous 4-H ribbons and awards for her intricate and beautiful needlework. Her talent and attention to detail were admired by many. She also enjoyed crafting, ceramics, cooking, and canning, sharing her gifts generously with family and friends. Her homemade jams and bottled fruits were a family favorite, and she delighted in teaching her children and grandchildren how to preserve food and create something from the work of their hands.

When she wasn’t busy creating, Margaret could often be found gathered around a table playing Rook, her laughter echoing among family and friends. She cherished these moments of connection, where stories were shared and bonds were strengthened. Her home was a haven — always open, always warm, filled with the aroma of home-cooked meals and the comforting presence of a woman whose love was felt in every corner. Margaret found joy in attending plays at Hale Center Theatre and was an active member of the Red Hat Society and the Spanish Fork Senior Center, where she built lasting friendships and gave generously of her time. She especially enjoyed volunteering at the senior center for many years. A devoted Utah Jazz fan, Margaret rarely missed a game and cheered passionately for her team. She also loved relaxing with her favorite television shows — Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, and Heartland — which brought her comfort, laughter, and a sense of connection to the stories and people she enjoyed.

Margaret was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and exemplified a life of quiet discipleship. She served willingly and faithfully wherever she was needed — whether in the kitchen, in the classroom, or at the side of a friend. Her testimony of Jesus Christ was reflected in her daily acts of service, compassion, and humility.

Above all, Margaret cherished her family. She was a devoted wife to Alan and a loving mother who nurtured her children with patience, humor, and unwavering love. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children and grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments, and sharing in the simple pleasures of life together.

She is survived by her children Eddie (Janet) Sumsion, Joseph (Ann) Sumsion, Gary (Scott Smith) Sumsion, Garth (Deidra) Sumsion, Valerie Jasper, April (Christopher) Sanchez, and son-in-law Bruce Jensen. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and her four-legged companion Buddy. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Alan, her daughter Connie, her parents, her four brothers, and two sisters.

Margaret’s legacy is one of love, faith, and service. Her hands created beauty, her heart radiated kindness, and her example will continue to inspire all who knew her.

    Janet Wilkey says

    Sumsion family,
So sorry to learn of your loss. I have many fond memories of “Mrs. Sumsion.” I knew her through my friendship with Connie. She was always so kind to me. I remember she came to my mission farewell and my homecoming. She even called and invited me to Joe’s mission farewell. One time Connie and I were going to a movie and I was driving. My dad had me take her a dozen farm fresh eggs from his chickens. Being a teenager, I found this very embarrassing (even though it shouldn’t have been). I gave her the eggs and she was so thankful and so excited. Again, I am sorry for your loss.
