Marc Yves Bastian was born in Provo, Utah on August 25, 2007. He returned home to his Savior’s powerful embrace on September 20, 2025 in Mapleton, Utah, having just turned 18.
Born to James Bastian and Isabelle Bastian, Marc was named after his Great Grandfather, Mark Oberhansly, a WWII hero, and his French Grandfather, Yves Jean.
Fluent in French and English, Marc was a global citizen, with two citizenships and two passports that had already crisscrossed large swathes of the globe, from the Pacific to Africa.
By the time Marc graduated early from Maple Mountain High School in Spanish Fork, Utah, he had already become a successful, self-taught entrepreneur who built a thriving business in the sneaker industry from scratch. He was a master buyer, and unflinching even when dealing with adults multiple times his age. It was not uncommon to find young Marc negotiating in high-end sneaker boutiques, and on any given day dozens of sought-after sneaker pairs were stacked to the ceiling in his bedroom.
Along with his business street cred, Marc had an easy urban style and excellent eye for fashion.
Soccer, Skateboarding, and Skiing were Marc’s passions. With a wicked double-stepover move that left defenders stumbling and an unmatched work ethic that saw him get at least 1,000 touches on the ball every day, Marc competed at the highest levels of club soccer until a recurring ankle injury and an emerging and ultimately destructive battle with anxiety saw him reluctantly abandon team sports for the more solo pursuits found in street-style skating and the celestial wintertime solace of Sundance Resort’s terrain parks and steep, powdery glades.
But by all accounts, Marc will be remembered most for his kindness, his light, sense of humor, infectious smile, brilliant mind, independent soul, and unwavering loyalty to his friends and close-knit family.
Marc’s departure was far, far too soon, but the memories made with him will be cherished and celebrated forever by those who live on, including his mother, Isabelle Bastian; his father and stepmother, James and Desiree Bastian; sister Claire LeMmon and her husband, Avery; brother, Thomas Bastian and his wife, Jentrie; brother, Sam Bastian; step-brothers Jordan, Sawyer and Liam Ashworth; Grandmother, Marie-Jo Jean, Grandparents, Terry and Sally Bastian, Yves and Ruth Jean. Marc was also deeply loved and admired by 9 uncles, 8 aunts, 24 cousins, and many, many friends.
“I seriously couldn’t have asked for a better family”, Marc wrote before his death. “Please let my friends and other family members know I loved them.”
Marc also expressed a final hope that “we’ll see each other again”. Indeed, we’re counting on it. God’s Plan is great, and we believe Marc is already diving into a new sort of work in the afterlife with smarts, style, full-throttle commitment, and the knowledge that our love for him is forever, and that we couldn’t possibly be any more proud of him.
As Marc would so often say “I’m good. I’m chillin’.” Until we meet again, Handsome, so are we!
