Machelle Young Pace November 28, 1958 - May 1, 2020

Machelle Young Pace, 61, passed away on May 1, 2020. Machelle was born November 28, 1958, in Provo, Utah, to Melvin Jesse Young and Zeda May Emmons. She was born and raised in the Provo/Orem area. She married her loving husband, Brent M Pace, on February 14, 1981, and then was later sealed in the Manti Utah Temple on August 10, 1988.

They chose to raise their five children in Payson, Utah. (Tait, Brook, Shane, Misty and Megan.)

Machelle held various jobs throughout her earlier years, first as a homemaker, followed by working in a sewing factory and then she worked as a bus aide for the school district before finding her true passion in helping others as a CNA. During this time, Brent worked at Klemp as a machine operator, until he decided to go back to school to get his nursing degree; and, to this day is continuing to work in the healthcare field as a registered nurse.

As a family, they enjoyed camping, the annual family reunion at Fishlake, Springville and Mapleton Canyon, as well as many memorable family road trips (oh, the memories made on those road trips will last in the minds of many and are joked about often).

Machelle was a very outgoing, friendly, social person, who loved animals, and spending time with friends and neighbors. She was the type of person who made friends wherever she went, even the grocery store. She could always find something to talk about or something in common with another person, which always put others at ease and made them feel welcome, no matter the event or family gathering.

She was a very creative person and was often found at her sewing machine, where she would make everything from aprons for her grandkids, or create an entire homemade costume without even using a pattern. She has made many beautiful quilts that her family continues to love and enjoy to this day, and will for years to follow. She was able to share her knowledge for sewing, as well as canning, both at which she excelled. She would happily spend a weekend sharing her knowledge, helping and teaching her daughters and daughters-in-law the art of canning.  She was the first they would call anytime they had a question about sewing or canning and 9 times out of 10 knew the answer to their question. They will greatly miss her picking up the phone and all her patience while teaching them new skills.

One thing no one could argue with is Machelle’s love for her animals and pets, and often she would give them the privilege of riding in the front seat of the car while her children rode in the back seat; but, to her, they weren’t just pets or animals, they were her “other children” and her love for them was undying. She also loved yard work, whether it was picking out new additions to her fairy garden from Olsen’s Gardens, and planting new plants flowers and trees in her yard. She just loved being outside!

Machelle loved her church callings: Young Women’s in which she loved participating at girls camp teaching the girls various skills and doing crafts; Scouting, where she was able to spend time with her grandkids watching them accomplish all their goals. Machelle also enjoyed working in the church library, where she had the opportunity to visit with everyone who stopped by.

Machelle and Brent always had a new project in the works and she loved stopping by and finding treasures at the Re-Store that she could incorporate into her projects.

Machelle is survived by her loving husband, Brent (they just celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary); she is also survived by their five children and their spouses, as well as 15 beautiful grandchildren.  She is survived by her parents, Zeda Emmons, Melvin and Deanna Young, her mother-in-law, Helen Pace; and her 9 siblings, and many more family members she loved dearly.

She is preceded in death by her father-in-law, Charles Pace; and her grandparents.

A private family service will be held.

I found out one month too late but heard this morning that Machelle passed away. I was privileged to talk with her and spent a lot of time discussing what she was going through several months back when she was in our care. God willing, I may be able to give some clarity and/or closure to family about some her thoughts and struggles at that time. I love her and will miss her. I’m praying God’s peace can somehow find its place in the hearts of her family again.

I always enjoyed being in the welcoming Pace home. I went as a home teacher and as a friend, and Machelle was always so thankful and appreciative of our visit. It was never a chore and we always came away feeling as though we were the ones blessed for being in their home. She is already missed and will be remembered very fondly as we now move forward. May God bless the whole Pace family as you now move bravely and faithfully forward to the time of reunion.

Each of you have been in our prayers continually since we heard the news of Machelle’s passing. For our generation, Machelle is one of the grand matriarchs in the Young family, and has done much good for the extended family both by her example and her service. Her service was always quiet and without fanfare. Each of us can easily recognize how we have benefited many times from her and her loving family’s service. What we may not so easily recognize is how our family has been blessed and sustained by Machelle’s steady generous caring nature. Like the core fibers woven into a beautiful fabric, through her faithful support of family gatherings and other activities we have each been strengthened. I know I will not be the only member of the extended family who will greatly miss her joyful smile and marrow deep love.

The reoccurring thought to me is this. No wonder we shouted for joy (Job 38:7) in our pre-earth life, when Jesus Christ was chosen by our Heavenly Father to be our Savior and to champion our Father’s plan. At a time like this, when one so dear to us is taken and our hearts are stretched to breaking, it gives me hope and courage to step forward into what seems to be the unknown, with full confidence in He who overcame all, even death. His capacity to lift and heal each of us is certain. There is no heartache that escapes his gaze or his caring. Though usually not seen by our mortal eyes, and often not recognized until some time has passed, angels are always dispatched on our behalf. I pray they will be ever present with you at this time and through the days ahead. We want you to know of our love for each of you.

I was so sorry to hear of Machelle’s passing. She was the first to welcome us to the neighborhood when we moved to Payson. She came over with a homemade pie that she had baked and a big smile on her face. We had a good visit! She was always so friendly. She would pop in at different times to say hi and visit. My heart goes out to all of her family. I am sure she will be greatly missed. I am sure she has been wrapped in the arms of our Savior’s love and that she loves each of you and is concerned for you and looks forward to being with you again. I hope you can find some peace and comfort during this difficult time. Love to your family.
