Lynn Naomi Villaverde, 68, of Salem passed away, surrounded by her family, on December 31, 2019 in Provo Utah.
Lynn was born on September 13, 1951 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Nathan and Elsie Kauihou Blevins. She enjoyed her youth in Hawaii and attended Kahuka High School and eventually went on to earn her masters degree from BYU Hawaii. She was always a hard worker and spent long hours working in the pineapple cannery. Her hard work helped to pay for her brothers to go on missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of which she was a member. After sending her brothers on missions, she answered the call to serve in the Philippines as a missionary as well, where she eventually met her future husband, Byron Villaverde. They were married on October 1, 1976 in the Provo, Utah Temple. Together they were blessed with two children, Kelii and LaShaun. Lynn was a talented dancer and performed at the Polynesian Cultural Center and also provided guided tours. She treasured her time there and told of her experiences accompanying many apostles as prophets and they toured the center.
Lynn and Byron made their home in Utah where Lynn started working in Salt Lake schools and then moved on to the Provo School District where she worked for 30 years. She also worked in the Nebo School District for 8 years. She loved to work with children and it led her to stand out as she came up with new and unique ways to teach her students. Some of her special efforts were recognized by educators throughout the state and are still used today.
Lynn also extended her care and concern for youth to her family, her church members, and all those she came in contact with. She encouraged young people to rise above what was expected and to excel at whatever they wanted to become. She was a strong supporter of the Scouting Program and the Young Women’s program of the Church. Lynn was creative with her hands and mind. She loved to play the piano and shared this talent with others. She was a devoted disciple of Christ and served in various callings within the church but especially loved working with the youth.
Being outdoors, gardening, camping, fishing, and swimming were best enjoyed with her family by her side. Lynn was a competitive swimmer in high school and later on, taught her son Kelii to swim when he was only two years old. She loved to cook for her family and kept track of Birthdays for many of her close and extended family so that she could bake a cake and deliver it to them. Lynn and Byron enjoyed having a mini farm where she could raise farm animals. She had special place in her heart for animals.
Lynn is survived by her husband of 43 years and her two children. She leaves behind 5 grandchildren; Genesis, Kai, Pita, Kingston and Ariana Villaverde-Unga. She also is survived by her siblings, Brigham Blevins, Wendy Sing, RayAnn Blevins and Nathan Blevins. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Joseph Blevins. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

March 12, 2020 at 12:24 amWe were saddened to learn of Lynn’s passing; and we send our heartfelt sympathy to you, Byron, and to the family. She was a light wherever she went, so the spirit world must be a bit brighter now that she is there. What a tender mercy it was when we received the email from our son telling us he had met you at the recommend desk in the Payson Temple. It felt like a visit from an old friend. The recommend desk was David’s assignment for over 3 yrs in the Kona Temple. May the comforting arm of our Savior be around you and bring you peace.
With love, David & Lucy Staples

January 17, 2025 at 3:02 pmThank you. This is LaShaun Lynn’s Daughter. She was a light in many people’s lives as you stated. We had about 1000 people who joined us in her celebration of life that day. I am still having to break the news to people who loved her. To see the love they had for her in their reactions makes me even more proud she is my mom. Thank you for your love and Condolences

April 15, 2020 at 5:34 amI just saw this, And I am so sorry for your families loss. I only know Mrs. Villaverde as my third grade teacher. That was over 35 years ago and I still remember how much she cared about me. She was a wonderful teacher. Until I read her obituary I had no idea what an amazing person she was. She clearly lived a wonderful life. Please accept my deepest condolences and sympathy. 37 years later and I still remember the impact she had on me. The world was a better place because she was in it.

January 17, 2025 at 3:24 pmOh, Scott there were so many children that she helped, loved, and she knew each individually. My brother and I both had her for 3rd grade. I had her for 5th grade as well. I got to see her specialties put to use first hand. Even though she was a mom to my brother and I. She always felt like she was a mom to so many more children and she loved it with all her heart. I remember dropping my brother off at classic skating and 3 of her former students yelled her name and skitted to her on their knees and bowed saying we’er not worthy 3x’s. Lol, they got up and all 3 hugged mom so tightly. They were in Jr. High by then. You know the time of the “oh i got to be cool” well that went out the window. Lol.
Just as a mother wants to help and love their children into the best form that child can be, my mom felt the need to help each of her children progress as far as they could in the year she had with them. She would spend hours after school setting up for the next day. She was always one of the last teachers to leave. On average we would leave close to 8PM because everything had to be ready for each group the next day. She loved her career! She loved you!
