Luella Colleen Jones Hill October 5, 2026

Luella Colleen Jones Hill, 85, of Springville, Utah, passed away peacefully at home on September 29, 2026.

Colleen, as she was known to her family and friends, was born on April 11, 1941 to Orval Nielsen and Luella Reid Nielsen in Spanish Fork, Utah. Her mother passed away 5 weeks after her birth and she was raised by her Aunt Vilate Jones and Uncle Edward Jones in Thistle, Utah where she lived until she married her high school sweetheart J Lynn Hill. They were married for 56 years and began their married life living at Dugway Proving Grounds when J Lynn was serving in the US Army. After his Army career, they lived briefly in Long Beach, California while J Lynn worked towards earning his CPA degree. They later moved to Bountiful, Utah where they lived for 32 years and ran their successful accounting firm at the Kearns Building in Salt Lake City.

After they retired, J Lynn and Colleen moved to McAllister, Montana where they lived for 20 years. Colleen enjoyed a fulfilling position as a volunteer at the Madison Valley Medical Center serving as a “Purple Lady” identifiable by their distinctive purple coats facilitating visitors and patients needing assistance around the medical facility.

Colleens favorite hobby was reading. She belonged to numerous book clubs over the years and enjoyed all genres. She was well known for donating her ever growing book collection to the communities that she lived in.

She was preceded in death by her spouse J Lynn and her parents Orval Nielsen and Luella Reid Nielsen.

She is survived by her sons Gerald Garth Hill (Laura) of Grantsville, UT, Don Jay Hill (Donna) of Tombstone, AZ, and Christopher Lynn Hill of Portland, OR; Grandchildren Chad Allen Hill (Kaytie) of Pleasant View, UT, Andrew Boyd Hill of Springville, UT, Kristen Nicole Bullock (Alex) of Saratoga Springs, UT; Great Grandsons Aiden Lynn Hill and Samuel Tony Hill of Pleasant View, UT.

The family would like to thank the team at Aspen Ridge Home Health and Hospice and specifically CNA Alexa for taking such wonderful care of Colleen during such a difficult and challenging time.

In lieu of flowers, Colleen’s wish was that a donation be made to your favorite charity in her memory. Your kindness and generosity would be a meaningful tribute to her life.
