Lois Mae Nielson, a woman of remarkable warmth, determination, and lifelong curiosity, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, in Payson, Utah, at the age of 96.
Born in Brigham City, Utah, on April 12, 1930, Lois grew up with a strong work ethic and a sharp mind. For many years, she served her community as a medical receptionist and biller, a role she held until her retirement in the 1970s.
Lois was a woman of many talents, but she was perhaps best known for her incredible skill with a crochet hook. Her hands were rarely still, and she poured her love into every stitch, creating beautiful blankets, delicate baby dresses, and practical car seat covers for those she cherished. Her handmade creations will remain treasured family heirlooms for generations to come.
What truly defined Lois, however, was her fearless love of learning. While some grew hesitant as the world changed around them, Lois ran toward the future. New technology never scared her, even when it was confusing. Determined to stay connected and informed, she frequently enlisted her youngest daughter and her grandchildren to teach her the ins and outs of computers, tablets, smartphones, and eventually, streaming devices. With a notepad in hand, she would meticulously write down every instruction step-by-step, proving to everyone that you are never too old to learn something new.
Lois is survived by her loving daughters, Julie and MariKo; her daughter-in-law, Debbie; her grandchildren, Jared (Katie), Shane, Bowdy (Natasha), Marshayla (Mosiah), and Maralee; her 14 great-grandchildren, Zac (Cassidy), Whitney (Max), Evan, Brinley, Zoey, Rylee, McKelle, Bentley, Everett, Brayden, Hendrix, Maci, Mia, and Myla; and her great-great-grandchildren, Caleb and Adalynn.
She was reunited in death with her beloved husband, Alton, and her son, Casey.
Lois’s independent spirit, her eagerness to embrace the modern world, and the love she stitched into the lives of her family will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
