Lois Adelaide Taylor Glenn, age 88, resident of Spanish Fork, Utah, passed away in her home on October 9, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Lois was born on February 18, 1936, in Wendell, Idaho, to Reed and Adelaide (Collings) Taylor. They lived on an eighty acre farm northwest of Wendell. She had three older brothers–Wallace, Ronald, and Glen, and one younger sister, Mary Lou. They worked hard to help their farm thrive amidst the hardships of harsh winters, widespread illnesses, and World War II. Lois later told her family how all the church bells in Wendell rang out to announce that the war was over and how much joy everyone felt.

Their farm didn’t have a yard or garden at first, and in later years, Lois remembered going into town with her mother one day and seeing a row of lavender flowers on a ditch bank in a field. She had never seen flowers before. She caught her breath and asked her mother, “What is that?” Her mother told her that they were flowers. Lois said, “I was thrilled with them. I thought they were so beautiful, and that began my love of flowers.” Eventually, Lois’ mother planted a row of zinnias on the walkway leading to the mailbox on their farm, andso Lois always planted a row of zinnias on the edge of her famous, big vegetable garden on the farm in Kimberly, Idaho. By the time that Derald and Lois moved to Brigham City, Utah, in 2005, Lois had 221 rose bushes planted around the farmhouse, and she took some of them with her to Utah.

Every year Lois canned many quarts and pints of fruits and vegetables–peaches, pears, pickles, cherries, grape juice, applesauce, green beans, and especially her tomato soup. Her family loved to come home to a hot bowl of homemade tomato soup and homemad e bread. She made bread every week. Her sons-in-law loved to sneak bowls of her frozen peaches late at night.

In 7th grade Lois started playing saxophone in the school band. She played in a saxophone quartet for many community functions. At the end of tenth grade, Lois joined a dance band called the Blue Notes, and they played for many school and church dances. She went on to play in the concert band and marching band at the University of Idaho.

Lois graduated from Wendell High School in 1954 and attended the University of Idaho in Moscow the following year where she studied elementary education. There, she met Derald Glenn of Kimberly at an Institute dance of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They dated throughout their freshman year and were married on June 15, 1955, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Lois had read the book Cheaper by the Dozen, and she told Derald that she wanted to have twelve children, and he said, “Why not?” They went on to have ten children over the following twenty-three years. Lois loved children, and over the years, she also mothered many children who were not her own.

In 1958 Derald and Lois moved to Kimberly, Idaho, and Derald farmed there until he retired in 1998. They were involved in the PTA for many years. Lois served on the school board in Kimberly and helped with the building of the middle and high schools there.

From the time she was a young girl, Lois was an active member of the 4-H program, and she went on to lead her own 4-H club, the Kimberly This-N-That Club, for 48 years. She loved helping her own children and many children in the community learn how to cook and sew and take their projects to the Twin Falls County Fair every year.

Lois was a prolific seamstress. She sewed many matching dresses over the years for her eight daughters in addition to dozens of prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and dance costumes. She went on to sew special dresses for many of her granddaughters as well.

Lois was an active, faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life. She started teaching the eight-year-old class at church when she was thirteen, and when given the choice, she chose to keep teaching instead of returning to the class with her peers. She was a teacher all her life in many different ways. At church she served as a Primary chorister, Primary President, Relief Society President, seminary teacher, scout den mother, and in other positions. Derald and Lois served an LDS mission in Tampa, Florida.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Derald Glenn; her parents; and her brothers, Ronald (Barbara) Taylor and Glen Taylor. She is survived by her siblings Wallace Taylor and Mary Lou Taylor; her children: Debra (Tony) Braswell, Kevin (Gaylene) Glenn, Cherise (Michael) Dodson, Loriann (Heath) Johnson, Janeil (Jim) Stewart, Maria (Darren) Bauer, Melanie (Kyle) Jensen, Nesha (Tyler) Woodhouse, Karen (Aaron) Bradley, and Jason (Kierstin) Glenn; 49 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and extended family. She happily served her family and community her entire life. Lois was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Aunt Lois was a remarkable woman. It did not matter what was going on in her life she would always make time for others. She was one of the most giving people I will ever know. She will be missed by everyone that knew her. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of my cousins and their families.
