Linda Jean Strong Lundell passed away peacefully at her home in Payson, Utah on October 7, 2024.
She was born on October 30, 1942, in Payson to George Washington and Beth Depew Strong. She grew up in Payson and graduated from Payson High School in 1960. She graduated from Snow College with an Associates of Arts degree in 1962. She then graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1964. She began her teaching career in 1964, teaching in Salt Lake City, Utah at Jefferson Elementary School. She returned to Payson, Utah the following year to teach first grade at Park View Elementary School. Linda was a creative and caring teacher who saw potential in each student. She was passionate about teaching reading and helped so many children cultivate a love of literature and learning.
Linda was recognized for her exemplary teaching in 1992 and was awarded Teacher of the Year for Nebo School District. She was also presented with the Crystal Apple Award. Linda taught for a total of thirty-eight years and retired in 2009. She loved teaching and loved her students.
Linda married the love of her life, Stephen Erickson Lundell, in the Manti, Utah Temple on July 29, 1966. Their daughter, Regan, was born five years later. Linda was a loving and devoted mom. She was calm and gentle and could solve any problem. She gave the best advice and was never too busy for a good, long talk, usually while eating Hershey Kisses.
Linda was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the gospel, her Heavenly Father and her Savior and it showed in everything she did. She served in many capacities including Relief Society President, Young Women President, and Primary President. She was a temple worker in the Provo Temple and even served for a time in Cub Scouts. Linda’s favorite calling however was that of Gospel Doctrine Teacher; a calling she performed faithfully for eleven years. In her spare time, Linda loved to draw and paint. She was a masterful pianist and could play nearly any song by ear. She loved to read and go for rides up the canyon, but her favorite pastime was to simply be at home with her family.
Linda endured many health issues in the past ten years and did it gracefully, bravely, and without complaint. She truly endured well to the end. She was preceded in death by her parents, her eternal companion Steve, and her sister Gloria Scherbel. She is survived by her daughter Regan who will miss her every day.
Regan would like to thank everyone at Aspen Ridge Hospice for the kind and tender care they showed to Linda to make her last days as comfortable as possible.
Per Linda’s request, a graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Benjamin Cemetery located at 8400 South 3200 West in Benjamin, Utah.
