LeRoy Whitehead Jr. September 9, 1927 - June 13, 2020

Our Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Husband passed away peacefully at his home in St. George, Utah on Saturday June 13, 2020. LeRoy was 92 years old and had been married for 72 years to his sweetheart Kathleen Nielsen Whitehead.

LeRoy was born September 9, 1927 in Provo Utah. He spent his youth in Nephi and Spanish Fork graduating from Spanish Fork High School in 1945.

LeRoy and Kathleen were married in the Salt Lake Temple, September 14, 1948. They are parents of 6 children.

LeRoy served during World War II at Fort Lewis Washington as Administrative NCO. He was the proud member of 6006th Army service unit. A recent honor was to be invited to Washington D.C. as part of the “Utah Honor Flight”.

Church and Family were very important to LeRoy. He served faithfully as a Home Teacher and Ministering Brother. Missionary work was always a great service opportunity. He served as a Stake Missionary, Ward Mission Leader, a member of the Presidency of the Seventy in the Spanish Fork Stake as well as Ward Clerk and member of the Bishopric in the 4th Ward of the Palmyra Stake.

LeRoy graduated from Brigham Young University in 1952. He served as a public accountant for many businesses in the valley. He later went back to school and received his teaching credentials. He taught 4th Grade at Central School. Later in his teaching career, he was called to the Nebo School District office where he utilized his accounting skills and educational knowledge serving as Clerk Treasurer of the school district. He taught math and accounting at Stevens Henager College and Salt Lake Community College and Utah Valley Community College. He was Dean of Students at Stevens Henager College. He loved accounting. He had the great ability to remember, retain and provide data for his clients.

Our family loves the great outdoors. It was all because from the early years of our lives, we traveled, camped and enjoyed family reunions at a different location every year. He maintained that summer tradition for as long as any of his children can remember. Fishing was one of LeRoy’s favorite pastimes, and Fish Lake in Central Utah was his favorite locations. Hunting on the east side of Fish Lake was one of the stories that he told every hunting season. The antlers in his office tell the rest of the story.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen. Children: Jeffrey (Valerie) Whitehead, Dickinson, North Dakota; Shauna (Michael) Gardner, Spanish Fork, Utah; Kyle (Julie) Whitehead, Fruita, Colorado; Kaleah (Allen) Julian, Enoch, Utah; Joel (CeAnn) Whitehead, Spanish Fork, Utah; Scott (Desiree) Whitehead, Ivins, Utah. Two Brothers: LaMont (Janet) Whitehead; Phillip (Wendy) Whitehead; 32 Grandchildren; 64 Great Grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Phyllis Whitehead, a brother Gary Whitehead, a sister JoAnn Johnston (Bill) and a daughter-in-law, Julie Whitehead.

Due to current circumstances, private family services will be held.
