LeGrande Alwinn Angell, 88, of Spanish Fork, Utah, passed away on August 8, 2024.
He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on April 9, 1936, the oldest son of LeGrande and Harriet Robinson Angell.
After graduating high school in 1955 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Al joined the United States Air Force. While stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington, he met the love of his life, Arlee Sherman, and they were married on March 29, 1958. They were sealed together for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple two days later, on March 31, 1958.
Al attended college at Eastern Washington State College, after which, he and Arlee moved to Logan, Utah, followed by Seattle, Washington, where he attended the University of Washington, followed by Medford, Oregon, and then Corvallis, Oregon, where he attended Oregon State University and became certified to teach. Al, Arlee and the family then moved to Portland, Oregon, where he taught in the Parkrose School District for five years. Finally, they settled in Keizer, Oregon, where he taught in the Salem-Keizer School District until his retirement. With all of their children and grandchildren gone from Oregon, he and Arlee moved to Spanish Fork in July of 2000 to be in a more central location to all of their kids.
Al and Arlee loved dancing together; when they were first married, they went dancing as often as they could. Together they taught hundreds to dance at dance festivals throughout Oregon, in the northwest region, and at All-church Dance Festivals in Utah. Everyone could see their love for each other whenever they danced.
Alwinn loved baseball. He played semi-pro ball in New Mexico before joining the service, and later in life he umpired high school and college games.
One of his biggest hobbies was framing pictures. He found great joy in that, as he framed for his family and friends.
Alwinn was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Arlee, and his sister, Janet. He is survived by his five children and their spouses, Kathryn and Walter Tovar, Gary Angell, Gregory and Lauralee Angell, Ryan Angell, and Michelle and Rick Leavitt, and his 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his siblings Gary Angell, Joyce Myrberg, Kent Angell, and Rebecca Thomas.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the LDS Chapel located at 1911 E. 1850 S., Spanish Fork, Utah. Family and friends may attend a visitation from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be at the Spanish Fork Cemetery following the service.
