Lee Douglas Stewart, our beloved father and grandfather, passed away on July 19, 2026. Lee was born on July 27, 1945, to Walter Mac Stewart and Betsy Adams in Chicago, Illinois. As a baby, his family moved to the community of Mount Vernon, near Golden, Colorado. He loved riding his bike around the property, climbing trees, and exploring in the mountains to see different animal life and landscapes. His ability to explore made it a little boy’s paradise.
At an early age, Lee had a curiosity for how things worked. He loved doing anything that required mechanical tinkering. He said he inherited it from his mom’s side, where his uncles possessed similar skills. He fixed up cars, took apart radios, and enjoyed other mechanical endeavors. It was a skill he used and loved the remainder of his life.
He graduated high school in 1963, and shortly after enlisted in the United States Navy. He went to boot camp in San Diego, after which he was stationed in the Philippines. While there he had a high security clearance as a communications officer, hoping to intercept messages and relay them to his commanding officer.
After his time in the Navy, he continued his education at Lake Forest College in Illinois. He used the knowledge learned in his youth doing mechanical work to thrust him into a career in aviation repair. He received an Airframe and Powerplant Certificate, which authorized mechanics to inspect, maintain, and repair civil aircraft. His direction soon shifted toward helicopters where he was hired at Rocky Mountain Helicopters in Utah. They sent him to school in Texas for training, where he specialized in fixing a specific helicopter and traveled to different parts of the world with it, including Costa Rica.
Lee married Hali DeHart on April 12, 1985, in Salt Lake City, and raised four children. Lee always made sure his family was provided for. He worked for Mountain State Steel as an engineer, Klune as a machine operator, Stouffers as a mechanic, and BMS Component Service as a helicopter mechanic. He later founded his own company, Stewart Air Services, where he specialized in the repair and certification of helicopter servos. He was very successful at what he did.
Lee loved Star Trek and enjoyed his evenings watching reruns alongside his family. He loved comics and telling jokes. His laugh was infectious and would warm the hearts of all who heard. He was smart and his ability to retain knowledge and information was unmatched. He was very service minded, and would drop anything in order to help someone, especially his family. Even when the effects of age took his ability to walk and ultimately his life, his example of love, kindness, and compassion is a legacy that will live on forever.
He is survived by his children: Casey Stewart (Nila), Diane Stewart, Natalie (Jeremiah) Christenot, Nachelle (James) Mackie; grandchildren: Ilia Bair, Raif Stewart, Landon Christenot, Wyatt Christenot, Connor Christenot, Talon Christenot, Bridger Christenot, Lily Mackie, Ryan Mackie, Gavin Mackie, Luke Mackie and Colton Mackie; sibling: Leslie Stewart. He is preceded in death by his wife Hali; parents, Walter and Betsy and sister Laurie Dewitt.
Services will be held Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Mount Loafer Ward Chapel, 275 South 1400 East in Spanish Fork, Utah. The viewing will take place from 9:00-10:30 a.m, with the funeral beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
