Lawrence Grant Lewis (Larry) was born March 23, 1928, in Burley, Idaho, to Grant Christensen Lewis and Ila May Smith. He passed away in Spanish Fork, Utah, January 26, 2021.
Larry grew up in Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. He joined the military and served in Japan just after World War II. After his time in the service, he moved to Utah to stay with family, during
which time he met his sweetheart, Joan Stewart. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple May 10, 1951. They would have celebrated their 70th anniversary this year. They were blessed with seven children: LeAnn, Peggy, Riki, Kevin, Shelly, Stewart, and Scott.
He is survived by his sweetheart, Joan; and five of their children: Riki (Brenda) Lewis, Kevin (Brenda) Lewis, Shelly (Jay) Mason, Stewart (Angie) Lewis, and Scott (Lori) Lewis. They have 26 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild on the way. He is preceded in death by their oldest daughter, LeAnn (Dan) Croft; and Peggy, who passed away shortly after she was born.
Larry was a Postman by profession. He loved singing and sang in the Mendelssohn Chorus in Orem, and the Spanish Fork Community Choir, as well as his ward choir. He was always singing around the house. He also loved to perform in the Spanish Fork Community plays. He learned to paint and painted some beautiful landscapes that his family will cherish. He and Joan were members of Dancing Friends and loved to dance. Another love he had was gardening. He always grew a big vegetable garden, raspberries, and fruit trees. He also loved to grow flowers. He had many varieties of roses as well as other flower varieties.
Larry was a big tease. He was known as the tickle monster and the hider of shoes. His favorite treat was cookies of every kind. So he was also known as the cookie monster.
Larry was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including the Seventies, as a nursery leader (where the kids adored him), and High Priest group leader. He and Joan served a mission in the Philippines, Manila Mission.
His family would like to thank Yarrow Hospice, his nurse, Tangie Perry, and others on their staff, as well as the staff at Legacy House for their care during his last months.

January 28, 2021 at 11:50 pmSo sorry to here about Larry. He lived a long, “good” life. We will not be able to attend the services as we are serving a mission in Japan.
We have grand memories of Larry. He loved family and always had a big smile on his face. He , along with my Dad were always the life of the party.
He was a tease for sure. I was once assigned to their ward to speak as a high councilor. He was sitting on the front row and continually made faces at me while I was speaking. On occasion I completely lost composure and started to laugh.
He was an honorable High Priest. Lived a good life and was an example of “ a peaceable follower of Christ.”
Please accept our condolences and give your mother an extra big hug from us. We love you all!

January 30, 2021 at 2:55 pmUncle Larry was the tickle monster, as a young girl I was terrified. But it didn’t take long to realize just how fun and caring he was. He was an example to us all. I’m sad for Aunt Joan and all my cousins, all are in my prayers. Happy that we all know we will see him again. He was one of the best.

January 31, 2021 at 2:23 pmOur family came to love Larry and Joan when we moved into their ward. Larry was always warm and friendly and ready to welcome anyone and everyone into his circle of friends. We also shared a love of music that extended into him joining the Spanish Fork choir with me. We affectionately called him, Larry Larry, because he was more than one Larry! He loved to tease our kids. They grew to love him too. He was a great example to our family when he showed us how much he loved the Savior and testified of the Gosple through his testimony. Until we meet again.
