Larry Dean Ercanbrack April 18, 1944 - November 10, 2024

Larry Dean Ercanbrack, age 80, passed peacefully November 10, 2024 with a Pepsi in his hand. Larry was born April 18, 1944 in Provo, Utah to Reed Thomas Ercanbrack and Ladawn Porter Ercanbrack.  Larry began his love for the outdoors early in his life, ranching in the mountains of Utah.

Larry graduated from Wasatch High School in 1962 and went on to graduate from Utah Technical College. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Southern States Mission. Larry married Kim Kohler in the Salt Lake Temple on August 18, 1967. Larry worked hard to provide for the needs of his family, working at Geneva Steel and Flowserve.

Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing. Much to the chagrin of his fishing companions, he could catch fish in any puddle of water. Larry was known to his family members as “the fish whisper.” As one who knew the fly-tying art, he always knew the best fly to use.  Larry never seemed to get skunked, at least according to the accounts that he gave to all who would listen.

Larry was the proud recipient of the Boy Scouts of America’s highest honor, the Silver Beaver Award, where he participated in many scout camps and enjoyed helping others discover the joy of the great outdoors. Larry was an engaged member of the CERT team for many years and was well-versed in ham radio communications and emergency preparedness. Disneyland was a place Larry loved, sharing that time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids…and the friends that he would make in the park. We all remember the challenge he issued with every trip – a churro for the first person to glimpse the Matterhorn.

Larry found great joy being with his family. He is survived by his wife, Kim; three siblings (Dave, Nathan, and Joey); and his children: Kelly (Jenny) Ercanbrack, Christy (Jason) Dye, Summer (Joel) Perkins, and Andy (Larry) Arko, He is also survived by his ten grandchildren and seven great-grandkids (with another on the way in March). Larry is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Sydney Ercanbrack.

This is Richard Lasson. Larry was a neighbor of mine when his family lived in Birdseye. We played together a lot up in the foothills and went to church together. He was a great kid and I really liked him.

Larry adopted our family when my husband and I moved to Payson over 18years ago. He helped us prepare our first backyard garden and brought us caving with the youth out in Delta. I was expecting our first child when we received news my husband would be deployed, I’ll never forget sweet Larry spoiling us with tickets to see Josh Groban before his departure. Time took us away and Uncle Larry kept in touch. We moved back and were attending BYU when we received a call and knock at the door, Larry came to celebrate our now 2yr old son with his first camping tent. Ever since coined at Uncle Larry, we have visited and received visits through the years. Most with fresh fruit, grape juice or elderberries, others with trilobites and geodes (the kid’s favorites). We last visited Uncle Larry this summer while traveling to baseball tournaments – all three of our children now in tow. Oh how we love and want to be like Uncle Larry.
