Agent Orange and the Vietnam War have claimed another victim well after the war, but far before his time. Larry Allan Garmus died July 1, 2021, from leukemia caused by exposure to Agent
Orange. He would want you to know and remember that the death tolls from wars are only a small part of the real story of the cost of the plague of war. Those of us that knew him best will always remember that, but we are blessed with the memory also of so much more.
There was never any doubt that he adored his wife of 52 years, Gail, and his three children, Sarah, Annie, and Brian.

Early in his life he was known as a geologist and richly talented artist. But deeply kind and deeply passionate, much of his life was spent in pursuit of the way to peace, the truths of faith, and the lost smile of a stranger brought forth by a small joke and the twinkle in his eye. We will miss him so, and we wish him peace. And peace be to you.
He is survived by his wife Gail, children Sarah McCall (Troy) of Salt Lake City, Utah; Annie Elkins of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Brian Garmus (Shaleen) of Carlton, Oregon, 7 grandchildren Ben, Kai, Jack, Charlie, Lucy, Evin, Alexis, 2 sisters Susan Harris of Hawaii; and Lucinda Garmus of Cleveland, Ohio. He is also survived by other loving extended family.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, brother Daniel Lee Garmus, and sister Rebecca Louise Wood.
A graveside service and military honors will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the Utah Veteran Memorial Park, 17111 1700 West, Bluffdale, Utah.

August 5, 2021 at 11:45 amI am just now reading of Larry’s death. I had no idea he suffered with leukemia, but it sounds like he had a happy life, especially after leaving Manti. I do hope he was able to find the peace he sought after. Please give our love to the children, especially Sarah.

September 14, 2025 at 4:41 pmAs a little kid who lived across the street (Grant St. in Casper, Wyoming in the 1970s) I vividly remember Larry and Gail were a very kind and peaceful couple. Larry let me weed dandelions in his yard shoulder to shoulder with him. I never knew he was a veteran, but his peaceful presence makes all the sense now.
