Klaus Werner Krohn, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home due to natural causes related to age, surrounded by his loving family. He was 83 years old.
Klaus was adored by all who knew him. He was known for his kindness, remarkable work ethic, quick wit, warm smile, and genuine ability to connect with anyone he met. A gifted storyteller and conversationalist, Klaus made everyone feel welcome, comfortable, and valued. His life was one of quiet service, devotion, and love—especially to his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife and eternal companion, Eileen Remi’ Wright Krohn; his sister, Sigrid Buttars; and his children: Cornelia Krohn, Michael Klaus Krohn (Jessica), John Werner Krohn (LeeAnn), Steven Robert Krohn (Hannah), Kristoffer Andrew Krohn (Kalenn), Laurie Joy Bailey (Andy), Candice Linn Mumford, Tiffany Eileen Williams, Nikolaus Günther Krohn (Niki), and Angelina Celeste Sharp (Jason). He also leaves behind 32 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, each of whom brought him immense joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Günther Nuernburger and Gertrud Gottschalk Zinnow.
Klaus was born in East Prussia during World War II and grew up in post-war Germany alongside his mother and sister. As a teenager, he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and later served a building mission in the Berlin area, helping construct chapels for the Church—an early expression of his faith, craftsmanship, and lifelong dedication to service.
Trained in Germany as a master craftsman in carpentry, Klaus immigrated to the United States at the age of 33 in late 1974. Shortly after arriving, he met the love of his life, Eileen Wright, at a church singles activity. After just a few short months, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 30, 1975, beginning a marriage marked by deep devotion, partnership, and love.
Klaus prioritized learning English as he immersed himself in his new country and culture, knowing the United States would be his forever home. He became a U.S. citizen as quickly as he could and was exceptionally proud to be an American. In twelve short years, Klaus and Eileen became the parents of nine beautiful children. Together, they raised their family in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, in the Redmond, Washington area.
A gifted builder and general contractor, Klaus specialized in high-end remodels and additions throughout the Redmond area. He had the rare ability to build nearly anything and took great pride in creating beauty through excellence, precision, and care over a career that spanned nearly forty years. He and Eileen raised their family on five acres of forest, where Klaus built their beautiful family home with his own hands.
Klaus loved nature, gardening, and working with his hands. He was deeply involved in his children’s lives, supporting them in scouting, sports, music, and countless other pursuits. Some of his children’s favorite memories include playing pickleball, basketball, football, and baseball on the sports court he built for them on their property. Other fond memories include Klaus supporting the children with their newspaper routes and having them help alongside him at job sites. Klaus loved a good game of golf, and enjoyed spending summer vacations with his children in Cannon Beach, Oregon. He supported Eileen for 50 years in playing her viola in orchestras, and always carried her viola for her.
He was always willing to help others in his neighborhood and church community, serving in many callings, including the bishopric. Klaus was also a dutiful and loving son to his mother, Gertrud, whom he cared for devotedly in her later years.
In 2010, after their children were grown, Klaus and Eileen moved to Utah County to spend their retirement years living with their son Kris, his wife Kalenn and their four children. There, Klaus enjoyed his later years surrounded by grandchildren, good conversation, meaningful friendships, and cherished time with his beloved wife. Just this last year, on June 30, 2025, Klaus and Eileen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Klaus loved the Lord deeply, and his faith was central to his life. He was known for his humor, warmth, and ability to make friends with anyone who walked through his door—including his much-loved dog, Pupchen. His home was always a place of welcome to friends and family who came to visit.
Klaus was deeply cherished by his family and dear to many friends. He will be remembered most for his kindness, steady service, craftsmanship, and the great love he had for his eternal companion, Eileen. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, excellence, and connection that will continue through generations.
He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.
