Kenneth Henderson Patey, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on February 18, 2023, due to causes incident to age. A great timber has fallen.
He was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada,
to Arthur John Patey and Bertha Louie Henderson on October 5, 1940.
He was called on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the London England Mission. He loved speaking assignments and opportunities of traveling with his mission president, Elder Marion D. Hanks. He was an active and life-long member of his church and held many different callings throughout his life. He was most proud of his calling as Relief Society mother education teacher while attending the Jerusalem, Israel Branch during the 1970’s.
After his mission he met his sweetheart Sharon Louise Harker who he married in the Cardston Alberta LDS Temple on June 8, 1963. He attended BYU, receiving his B.S. degree in Child Development, Family Relations, and an M.S. degree in Counseling. He also did post-graduate studies in Hebrew and in historical geography at the Institute of Holy Land Studies in Jerusalem.
He was gifted with his hands, initially working as a sign painter and graphic artist, while eventually becoming a professional educator and lecturer. He was an LDS seminary teacher and later taught university level coursework in the US and in the Middle East. He was the author of the SUBDEX File Systems, a way of organizing LDS literature. His most important life’s work was teaching healthy relationship principles through his GrowthClimate Therapy Center. Under the umbrella of GrowthClimate, Ken and his team have been instrumental in enriching the lives of thousands.
He was a devoted father to six sons and five daughters, all surviving: Candis (Brian Twede), Cindy (Bruce Brewer), Kristen (Keith Reily), Kenneth (Richelle), Juhl (Casey Helias), Michael (Chandra), Mark (Suzy), Ruth (Craig Wakefield), David (Lori), Daniel, and Aaron (Lyssa). There was nothing more important to him than his family. His growing posterity includes 56 direct grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. His surviving siblings are Bob Patey, Carol Gurr, Bev Albas, Ron Patey, and Fran Patworth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Jack Patey and Frank Patey and a son-in-law, Robert Marion Lamb (Kristen).

February 27, 2023 at 9:35 pmKenneth H. Patey was a giant of a man. He was loving and kind to all. He adored and lived for his wife, Sharon, his family, and his students. He was humble and always learning. Many times, in our Growth Climate class, he would start a roll of puns, bantering back and forth with other quick witted class members. I guess you would say that in the end, he really pundit! I will miss his gentle humor, his kind smile and loving hugs. He held a place in his heart for everyone he met. He truly lived and loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and testified of its truthfulness by the life he lived. I will miss this very dear friend.
