Kathy Ann Bona Templeman was born April 1st, 1950 in Spanish Fork, Utah to Neil and Frances Aldred Bona. She died peacefully at home with her “boys” at her bedside.
Kathy grew up in Spanish Fork and attended public schools there, graduating from Spanish Fork High School in 1968. She had a beautiful singing voice and often performed in school assemblies and in the community. She excelled at French and dreamed of living in France one day. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree from Brigham Yong University and began teaching high school English soon after, initially in Spanish Fork High School before moving to Springville High School where she taught English for 14 years. While teaching in Springville, she earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling and transitioned to a Student Counseling position at SHS where she remained until her retirement 16 years later.
She married Craig Templeman and they had two sons, Jeffery Scott and Ryan David. Later divorced.
During her time at SHS, Kathy received multiple honors and recognition for her teaching skills, but more importantly for her compassion and understanding of what a well-rounded educational experience was for her students, especially those who were quieter or considered not in the mainstream of school life. She sought them out and loved helping them find their potential and discover their worth. She honed this talent as a counselor and continued to receive notes of appreciation and progress updates from former students for decades after she retired.
She retired after a 30+ year career to take care of her aging mother, Frances, until her death in 2006.
Kathy was a role model of intelligence, patience, kindness, persistence and compassion not only for her students but for her sons and grandson, Parker O’Neil Templeman whom she adopted when he was a baby, and granddaughter, Dillan. She taught by example. She lived her life with an inner guide for doing unto others and non-judgmental fairness. She was gifted with an open mind and all-inclusive heart. She was smart, strong, focused and unassuming, all bundled into human form. Her laugh began as a smile and escaped as a giggle.
She loved art, music, literature, reading, film, travel, the Beatles, New York City, Florence Oregon, Washington DC, Wales and Europe, the color pink, Vincent Van Gogh, animals, the Oregon coast, and books, books, books. She wrote stories and indulged herself in poetry and music lyrics. She introduced her boys to John Lennon, not only his music but his humor and prose. She introduced so many to books and many caught the fire for reading for the first time because of her ability to choose a book or story that ignited their particular passion or curiosity and they became as addicted to its power as she was. She accumulated a huge library of classics and compiled vast music and film collections.
Kathy had more than her share of heartbreaks and health challenges during her lifetime, and as was her nature, she powered through all of them with grace and focus. For those close to her, the toll on her health slowly became apparent and as one of her cousins suggested when hearing of her death, “her body just wore out.”
Kathy is survived by her sons, Jeff and Ryan, her grandson/son, Parker and granddaughter, Dillan. She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice Nurse, Karrie Larson for her gentle care and sensitive attention to Kathy’s needs over the last few months of her life.
Funeral services will be July 8th at 11 AM at Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah. The family looks forward to all photos, stories and remembrances shared through the website at walkermemorials.com

She truly made a difference in the lives of many and will be missed greatly! She was such a good sport when we pushed her car across the street from the parking lot and hid it. If greatness could be defined by the positive impact you make in the world, Mrs. T was truly one of the greatest!!!

July 4, 2022 at 12:07 amKathy and I were born a day apart in Payson Hospital. Our mothers shared the same room. Mama’s name was Kathryn, and her mom’s name was Frances. That’s my first name.
Kathy was such a beautiful, gentle and talented person. You always knew that you were in good company when around her.
A voice like a lark and a soaring spirit to match. I know she’s at peace.
