Kathleen Gardner Powell, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, was called home to our Heavenly Father on May 10, 2021.

Kathy was born on June 25, 1951, to Max Brockbank Gardner and Vivian Ida Anderson, in Payson, Utah. She grew up in Spanish Fork, where she met, and then married the love of her life, Stephen Ray Powell, on April 17, 1970, in the Salt Lake City Utah Temple. Continuing to live in Spanish Fork, they welcomed 6 beautiful children into their family.

Kathy was a beautiful soul, who treated everyone with love and kindness.  She made you feel as if you were her favorite person.  She took in so many neighborhood friends and made them feel like they were one of her own kids.

Kathy’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her 16 wonderful grandchildren and making sure they knew just how very much she adored them.

Kathy had the most infectious laugh that would make the whole room laugh.  She had such a great sense of humor, inappropriate at times, but she knew how to lighten any mood.

Kathy had a love of games and competition, either win or lose, she just loved the atmosphere and a room full of laughter and joy.

Kathy was very loved and will be missed so very much.

Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Vivian Gardner; her father, Max Gardner; and her two brothers, Loren Gardner and Brent Gardner.  She is survived by her husband, Stephen Powell; her sister, Vickie Sommers; her six children and their spouses: Stacy Powell, Chad and Brianna Powell, Lance and Sarah Powell, Cody and Anne Powell, Tiffany and Jordan Norton, and Troy Powell.  Kathy is also survived by her 16 grandchildren:  Olivia, Brayden, Hunter, Greggory, Tyson, Ryan, Alex, Gracie, Mason, Emilie, Tristan, Lincoln, Bailey, Lexi, Rylie and Maddox.

Two viewings will be held to honor our dear Kathy. The first will be held at Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork on Friday, May 14, 2021, from 6-8 in the evening. A second viewing will follow on Saturday, May 15, 2021, from 9:45 until 10:45 in the morning, at the Spanish Fork 5th Ward Church at 1006 East 200 South in Spanish Fork. The funeral will proceed at 11 o’clock a.m. at the same location. Interment is to be at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.

When I was growing up I was not very active in the church, but I have wonderful memories of being in Kathy’s primary class. She was a perfect example of Christ like love. She always made me feel welcome. The short time I spent with her had a very positive influence in my life. Now I am very active, married in the Temple, and teach primary. I hope that I can influence the children in my primary class and give them what she gave me!
