Kathleen Crystal Carroll March 20, 1947 - February 18, 2025

It has been said that we touch the lives of others through who we are and that no one else can take our place. And that was true of Kathy Crystal Carroll, who passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, after a lengthy illness.

She was born on March 20, 1947, in Lehi, Utah, the youngest of five children born to Reed William Crystal and Elizabeth (Jense) Christensen Crystal (who went by the nickname Dot). [Her siblings were Jeneal, Doris, James (Jim), and Sidney Crystal.]

Kathy grew up in Pleasant Grove, Utah. When she was seven years old, she was crowned Miss Pleasant Grove during the city’s Strawberry Days festival. As a teenager, she spent her summers working at the Pleasant Grove swimming pool teaching children how to swim, picking raspberries, and babysitting kids.

She attended and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School, where she was a cheerleader, a member of the Pep Club (drill team), and was on the student council.

Kathy met Kent B. Carroll at a high school regional basketball tournament in Provo, Utah. They fell in love and got married a couple of years later on March 26, 1965. The couple lived in Alpine, Utah the first few years they were married, and then built and moved into a home in Lehi, Utah. They lived there for many years until 1980, when they built and moved into a home in Payson, Utah. Once her kids were older, Kathy worked as a teacher’s aide at Wilson Elementary School and at a wedding gown shop in downtown Payson.

Kathy was a loving, kind, thoughtful, caring, compassionate and giving person. She often remarked that being a wife, mother, and grandmother was one of the greatest joys of her life, and she considered her family and grandchildren to be her greatest treasures. She also had many extended family members and a large circle of close friends who were extremely important to her and with whom she shared many wonderful life experiences and fond memories.

She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a strong testimony of God and Jesus Christ. She was admired by many in the community for her warm and caring nature and for the ongoing acts of service she did for others.

Kathy loved to cook, sew, garden, do canning, and watch old movies. She frequently hosted large family get togethers, such as outdoor hot dog roasts (complete with homemade root beer and homemade food), big Easter egg hunts, and Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends, reading, doing ceramics, making crafts, and traveling to various places with her family such as Disneyland, SeaWorld, the beach, Lake Powell, and Yellowstone.

She had a solid understanding of medicine and healthcare, even though she’d never had any formal training. She spent many years taking care of others, such as her mom, dad, and brother, who all required long-term care toward the end of their lives.

She is survived by her husband, Kent Carroll, children Patricia (Brian) Verwer, Payson, Utah; Michelle (Phillip) Scow, Payson, Utah; Kimberly (Kevin) Mathie, Los Angeles, California; Holly (Matthew) Morgenegg, Clinton, Utah; and Jeffrey (Amber) Carroll, St. George, Utah; brother Jim (Alene) Crystal, Orem, Utah; 13 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father Reed Crystal, mother Elizabeth Crystal, stepmother LaPreal Walker Oscarson Crystal, brother Sidney Crystal, two sisters Doris Crystal Bullock and Jeneal Crystal, a grandson Alex Phillip Scow, a great grandson Dawson David Verwer, and several close friends.

Kathy requested that after she passed away that there only be a small graveside service with family and a few friends. That service was held on Monday, February 24, 2025. She is buried in the Payson City Cemetery, located at 400 N. 800 E. St., in Payson, Utah. Those who wish to pay their respects and condolences to the family may contact her husband Kent Carroll or her children or visit Kathy’s gravesite.

The family also wishes to extend a special thanks to Kathy’s care team (Advanced Health Care, Valeo Home Health and Hospice, CNA Alexa Coltharp, nurse Annie Steele, and Revere Health), the Maple Dell Ward Relief Society, and Walker Funeral Home.
