Julio Antonio Mendizábal Gidi was born on September 12, 1983 in Guatemala City, Guatemala. At the age of 7, his family moved to Norwood, Massachusetts and created many memories. In his senior year of high school, his family moved to North Attleboro, MA, where he graduated in 2002.
Julio went on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Meza, Arizona. He enjoyed his time serving with the people of Arizona and at the temple visiting center. After his mission he resumed his studies at Brigham Young University where he graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering. He worked for BrainGarden/Forever Green, L3 Harris for many years and had recently switched over to Northrop Grumman managing their Quality Team.
Julio met the love of his life, Summer and it was love at first sight. They dated for 6 months and were married in December of 2006 in the Mount Timpanogas temple. They welcomed 4 children into their family and Julio loved each one of them immensely.
Julio was a very kindhearted man, known by some as a gentle giant but was also blunt about his opinions. He was always there to help with anything you needed. People who knew him most assuredly recognized his selflessness and devotion to his family, his work, and those he cared for. He could engage anyone into a conversation of any topic and he had genuine interest for those he interacted with. He was inquisitive and loved challenges, especially food challenges, and worked hard at helping those in need around him, selflessly dedicating his time and talents.
Julio had a passion for nature and it’s minerals. He dedicated his free time to gaining a deep knowledge about gems and minerals, and began selling his gems and jewelry at rock and gem shows. He became a gem Prospector and was working on becoming a silversmith to create his own custom jewelry. He shared his passions with his children for rock hounding, and his talents for working with technology, code, and problem solving. He had an amazingly analytical mind and could help you figure out any problem you were facing.
As a family man, he cared for his children and wife above all else and thought about them in every decision he made. He was an example to his siblings, always making time for them, considering them, and looking after them. He had an amazing way of being there when you needed him most. He loved his parents, honored them through his actions, and they have a deep respect for him. His presence will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Summer Catherine Mendizábal, his children, Kenadi Liliana, Ryland Antonio, Elias Gidi, and Aliyah Lily; his parents Rodolfo Antonio Mendizábal Larrañaga, Liliana Gidi Mendizábal; grandfather Jose Gidi; siblings Scarlet Bushman (husband Daylen, children Austin, Connor, Brady, Valeska), Claudia Bushman (husband Dannen, children Kyla, Bailey, Brooke, Bratcher, Emilia, Allison), Luis Mendizábal (wife Katrina); aunt Lilia Aracely Mendizábal Larrañaga Gonzalez (husband Marco Vinicio); 2 cousins that are like sisters Paola Gonzalez (children London Olyvia, Lincoln Vinicio), Lyza Lynch (husband Dan, child Jaxon Marco Lynch); father and mother-in-law Ted Anderson, Diane Anderson; in-laws Alicia Whipple (husband Todd, child Ciara (husband Manny, children Declan Braun, Addison Braun), Chad Anderson, Christian Anderson (wife Priscila, child Kate), Kami Alvarez (husband Joel, children Levi, Dawson), Micah Anderson, Tausha Whiting (husband Cameron, children Taylor, Peyton, Mason, Bailey).

October 9, 2023 at 4:23 pmI met Julio a few years ago at L3 when he was an engineer. I still remember when we went out for lunch because he asked if I knew of a place that served good tacos. If you know him, you know he was a big foodie. Julio didn’t like to smile because it causes wrinkles he says. Whenever we’d meet I dd my best to make him laugh because seeing him smile brought a warmth I can’t explain. He was stern, yet very kind. He pushed me to better myself and if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be the man I am today. He always asked me when I was going to have my first child, and now that my wife is due in a few months it hurts knowing he won’t meet her. The impact of his passing is huge, but the legacy he is leaving is even bigger. Julio, I will never forget you, and I’m so thankful for the meals we shared together. The wisdom and knowledge you passed to not just me, but others around you. You changed my life professionally and personally. I’m forever grateful for you.

October 9, 2023 at 6:51 pmI am heartbroken to hear about Julio. He was a great colleague and quickly becoming a friend. At Northop we were beginning to work more and more with each other. We both graduated from BYU with the same degree, so it wasn’t surprising that he worked so hard. He had a passion for making things better. A few weeks ago, he was in my office talking about and issue he was trying to solve and later began telling me about his family and his children. I could tell he was good father and a good Christian. He will be missed here at work; he was doing great things here.

October 9, 2023 at 11:38 pmIt was truly lovely to read about Julio’s full and beautiful life. In the passing at the lockers or hallways of middle school, Julio would always have a smart quip or interesting factoid and would share with so much ferver and confidence. Wishing the Mendizabal family love and light during this time.

October 11, 2023 at 2:08 pmDear Family,
We are sending you our love and strength in this difficult moment, this goodbye has come too soon and unexpected.
Our hearts remember all the memories from the good old days when we visited you in MA, we had such good times. We appreciate those memories and will hold them as treasures.
Julio was always a nice and gentle person, he smiled a lot and would enjoy conversations with us. He is of course a reflection of Tio Tonito and Tia Lily, and their kind hearts.
We love you all. May God bless you all and give you strength.

October 11, 2023 at 2:21 pmI am so sorry for this heartbreaking loss Julio was a great man, husband and father. I met Julio just over 2 years ago at Northrop but if you were to ask him, he will always say he knew who I was from my short time at L3 from when he peeked over the line to see the side of me on a tour he had in our lab. To know him was to know he had his AS9100 book glued to his hand and could refer to any section for you but that’s who he was, you went to him whenever you needed help with the facts cause boy did he know them! Everything I’ve learned and gained in my career I owe to him in some way or another. We spoke about life, family and food and the Recipes! Not to mention how the last chili cookoff was rigged! I called his Salsa Jalapeno vinaigrette, and he chuckled as it pretty much was just peppers and oil. In my home breaking bread is a huge meaning so to have sat and shared many meals and discuss life is a memory I will hold dearly. Julio you will be truly missed. Thank you for every talk, lesson and just always being you.

October 11, 2023 at 3:54 pmJulio lived in my neighborhood many years ago and I remember how excited and invested he was at that time in smoking meats. One time he brought some by and it was so good!
His conviction in his beliefs was always noteworthy and admirable.
