Joyce Greenwood Nelson, age 95, passed away on November 28, 2025 in Payson, Utah. She was born November 22, 1930 in Price, Utah, to Alma and Mabel (Jensen) Greenwood. Joyce attended schools in Price and graduated from Carbon High School in 1950, after which she worked several years for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph in Price and Provo, Utah.
Joyce married her high school sweetheart, Allen “Nick” Nelson, on June 27, 1955, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, while he was on active duty with the U.S. Army at Fort Carson, Colorado. They had three children: Nick, Jed, and Cori.
Following the family’s move to Porterville, California in 1961, Joyce enrolled in Porterville Community College where she received her AA degree. Several years later, she earned her BA degree in elementary education from CSB in Bakersfield, California. She then taught school for several years at Sunnyside Elementary School in Strathmore, California before retiring in 1993.
Survivors include her husband, Allen “Nick” Nelson, of Elk Ridge, Utah; sons, Nick (Sharon) Nelson of Orem, Utah; and Jed Nelson, of St. George, Utah; daughter, Cori (Scott) Parker of Pleasanton, California; and five special grandchildren: Ariel Nelson of Grantsville, Utah; Kylee Adamson of Mapleton, Utah; and Connor Nelson of Orem, Utah; and Cole Parker and Luke Parker of Pleasanton, California; and a great-granddaughter, Graydee Kay Dalton Nelson of Grantsville, Utah. Other survivors include her sister: Ella Santi of Las Vegas, Nevada. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Alma and Mabel Greenwood; her brothers, Bob Greenwood and George Greenwood; and her sisters: Lavon Juvan, Ruth Pace, and Lois (Horace) Thayne.
Joyce’s family will honor her request for a private graveside service, and there will not be an open casket viewing. Interment will be in the Salem City Cemetery.
Her family would like to thank Bristol Hospice, as well as the doctors, nurses and staff of Mountain View Hospital’s ER and Medical-Surgical departments.
