Joyce Stanbridge Elsea, born on June 30, 1930, to Albert Earl Stanbridge and Leona Shepherd Stanbridge, passed away on February 12, 2024, quietly and comfortably at home in Redding, California, where she had been living the past two years with her son, Rick, and daughter-in-law, Evelyn, who cared for her until her passing.
She married Richard C. Elsea, Sr. in Castro Valley, California on December 30, 1945. Together they had five children: Rick Jr., Wendell, Abigail Louise, Jennifer, and Linda Joyce.
Joyce was a Christian woman whose faith in her Savior sustained her throughout her life. As a young woman, she worked as a switchboard operator for “Ma Bell” telephone company. She also worked in customer service at Safeway grocery store for 17 years.
She enjoyed baking, gardening, traveling, and reading her Bible. She enjoyed being a volunteer at the hospital in Redding, California. Joyce delighted in chatting with folks wherever and whenever. She was very interested in, and kept up to date on, politics especially the Republican Party. Joyce was tender-hearted toward rescue animals. She loved her fur-babies: her dog, Freddie-boy (who awaits her in heaven); and Precious, her cat, who survives her and lives with Rick and Evelyn.
Joyce is survived by two of her five children: sons, Rick Jr. (Evelyn) Elsea of Redding, California; and Wendell Elsea of Salinas, California. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; and by her husband, Richard C. Elsea Sr. (1925-1992); and by her daughters: Linda Joyce (1949-2005), Jennifer (1951-1975), and Abigail Louise (1954-1955).
Private family memorial services have been held. Interment was at Payson City Cemetery, 400 North 805 East, Payson, Utah 84651.
