John Edward Bott IV, affectionately known as Ed, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at the age of 72. Though his body had become worn from years of health complications, his mind remained sharp, and he faced his final days with the same strength and determination that defined his life.
Ed was born on June 19, 1953, in Payson, Utah, to John Edward Bott III and Vera Pearl Wilcox. The oldest of two boys, he was raised in Payson, where he attended local schools and graduated from Payson High School in 1971.
While in high school, Ed met the love of his life, Jane Lundell. Their friendship blossomed into a lifelong love story, and they were married on March 22, 1974. Together they built a beautiful life and shared more than 52 years of love, devotion, and partnership.
Ed and Jane were blessed with four wonderful children: Adam, Jared, Katie, and David. He was incredibly proud of each of them and treasured every opportunity to support and encourage them. His family continued to grow with the arrival of nine grandchildren – Kaylee, Korbin, Hunter, Mikinlie, Brekelle, Brevin, Heston, Gage, and Kambrie – and two great-grandchildren, Wrenly and Acey. He loved watching his family grow and often found his greatest joy in spending time with them. We can only imagine that he is already preparing to teach and guide future great-grandchildren who will one day join the family.
Ed was known as a man who could fix just about anything. A true jack-of-all-trades, he learned the value of hard work at a young age. By the age of fourteen, he was already helping his family by shingling his mother’s house and rebuilding classic car engines. He was also a side kick to his dad in the cabinet shop. That remarkable work ethic stayed with him throughout his life. Even in his later years, he could often outwork men half his age.
His talent for craftsmanship led him to a successful career in drywall. Alongside his best friend, he operated a drywall business and helped construct countless buildings throughout Utah. The quality of his work spoke for itself and remains a lasting testament to his dedication and skill.
Ed loved the outdoors. Hunting and camping were among his greatest passions, and some of his most cherished memories were made on the Paunsaugunt Plateau, where he spent countless days hunting, camping, and creating lifelong memories with his sons. Family members often joked that the animals were safest whenever Ed was on the mountain. He also loved spending time in his shop with his faithful companion dog, Dash, who was rarely far from his side.
Ed was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; Ed freely shared his talents and time with others. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and was known for his generosity, humor, and kind heart.
Waiting eagerly to welcome him on his first heavenly adventure were his beloved sons, Adam and Jared. He was also reunited with his parents, John and Vera Bott; his parents-in-law, Junior and Lois June Lundell; and his brother-in-law, Craig Lundell.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Jane, whose devotion and exceptional care brought comfort and strength throughout the final years of his life; daughter, Katie (Mike); son, David (Liz); daughter-in-law, Jessica; brother, Craig (Janet); his nine grandchildren; his two great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends.
Ed leaves behind a legacy of hard work, humor, craftsmanship, and unconditional love. His influence can be seen in the lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the example he set. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for generations to come.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Spring Lake Ward Building, 12625 South Spring Lake Road, Spring Lake, Utah. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Payson City Cemetery, 400 North 800 East, Payson, Utah.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude and love to all those who have supported, served, and cared for them during this difficult time. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
