Jodie Larry Mattinson December 28, 1970 - October 13, 2024

Due to technical difficulties, Jodie's funeral service broadcast will not be available for viewing until Monday, October 21, 2024.

We apologize for the inconvenience!

On October 13, 2024, we unexpectedly lost our super hero, best girl dad, loving husband, son, brother, uncle, biggest cheerleader, protector, bike warrior, friend to anyone and everyone, Jodie Larry Mattinson, 53, of American Fork.

Jodie was born on December 28, 1970 to Larry and Kathy Mattinson of Spanish Fork, Utah. He was the middle of 5 boys: Bret (Lynda), Bodie (Kim), Shad, and Adem. He was a graduate of Spanish Fork High School, class of 1989, where he wrestled and played varsity football. Jodie was an absolute legend, on and off the field. Not only was he captain of the football team with all region honors, he was also 2 time all region during his junior and senior year, and lettered three times in football. On the field, he played the whole game: running back, line backer, and kick return. According to Coach Doug Snell, “Jodie was one of the best players that ever played at Spanish Fork High School.”

He attended Dixie College, where he played football. He received a degree in Occupational Therapy in Denver, Colorado.

Jodie didn’t do anything halfway-he did it to be the best. He was an absolute all around gifted athlete. He was a thrill seeker and lived his life to the extreme. Whether it was kayaking the Snake river, jumping over a 100 foot road on a snowboard, completing the Marine marathon in Washington D.C., Spudman triathlon in Idaho, CrossFit, or his addiction to road biking, which led to him completing Lotoja-a 204 mile, 3 state, one day bike race-TEN TIMES.

Jodie’s biggest love of his life was his family. He began dating his high school sweetheart, Aimie Richards, in 1984. They married on April 12, 1999 and had three beautiful girls: Zoey (23), Addisyn (21), and Avery Jo (Jodie, 18). They were his life and he was their biggest cheerleader. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them and they knew it. He never missed a cheer competition or game the last 15 years and he loved every minute of it. Jodie and Aimie created a life for their girls that they can be proud of, squeezing in more memories and experiences than you can imagine. As a family, some of their favorite things were attending Utes games for the past 21 years, boating at Lake Powell and Bear Lake, and showing their girls the world.

Like everything else Jodie gave 110% to, his work ethic was no different. He was so well respected amongst his co-workers and peers; it wasn’t unusual for some of them to join him when he moved on to different positions or companies. He was responsible for launching more careers for his friends than we count. No matter their background or work experience, he gave everyone a chance. He was currently employed at Proofpoint, where he served as the VP of Commercial Sales for the last 8 1/2years. The impact he made with his team is unmatched.

How do you sum up a life so well lived and to the max? There are more memories than we can count or list and we can never do it justice. Pink Floyd (!!!), longboarding, snowboarding, red vines, daily drive thru Beanie visits with Canyon, epic, wicked, boating, surfing, tie dye cut off muscle tank top uniform and other interesting yard attire, RZR rides, his compliments, the legendary Mattinson boys of Spanish Fork, cheese sanwidge, his laugh and smile, hype man, Gatorade Zero, skiing, salmon fishing with his brothers, epic 80s mullet, potato chips, yearly Carlsbad trips, Europe, Bear Lake, Lake Powell, thoughtful, spotting back tucks, kayaking, YODE, bullet bike, the favorite uncle, selfless, texting I LOVE YOU.

Jodie is survived by his wife, Aimie; children: Zoey, Addi, Avery Jo; parents: Larry and Kathy Mattinson; brothers: Bret, Bodie, Shad, and sister-in-law Angie. He is preceded in death by his brother, Adem, and sister, Stephanie.

The family wishes to express their appreciation and love for all those that have reached out to them. It has been incredible and also unsurprising at the amount of people that Jodie has touched and that LOVE him. What was amazing about Jodie is that we all knew how he felt about us. He told us often and showed how he felt. There will never be a question of how much he loved and adored Aimie and his girls, and we are incredibly grateful for that. We will forever remember our super hero, husband, dad, son, brother, uncle and legend, Jodie Mattinson.

Shine on, you crazy diamond.

I knew Jodie for his entire career at Proofpoint. When it came to working as an extended part of his management team, I felt like he always had my best interest in mind even though I know at times it was difficult to balance everything. We also chatted many times as friends. Jodie was the same person offline as he was online at work – down to earth, sincere and genuine. When I left Proofpoint earlier this year, he followed up with me a couple of times to let me know I would be missed and wanted to stay in touch on all my upcoming travels, so he connected with me on Instagram. Jodie even invited me to Utah to go four wheeling together in our new Broncos. All of that made me feel valued professionally and personally. Jodie was a one a of a kind and all around good man. He will be missed. Sending my sincere condolences to all of his family and friends, especially his daughters, wife, mother, father, and siblings.

How sad that Jodie was taken from us too early. He brightened our medical office with a smile no matter how much knee, back or shoulder pain he was in…and he was in a lot. The world will be a bit darker without him and his happy go lucky charm. We will miss him and send our love to Aimie, Avery, Zoey and Addisyn.

I had the pleasure of working with Jodie at Proofpoint. He was full of life, someone who was as they say an ‘energy giver’. Truly sorry that a man of integrity, wit and ability was taken away from us and his family too early. Rest in Peace Jodie, the impact you made at Proofpoint & the world will live on.

Jodie was one of the best managers I had the opportunity to work for at MarketStar. He was a great leader and did what he could to fight for his employees. We fell out of touch as the years went on, but I felt good in the knowledge that he was doing good in the world.

I don’t believe there could be a better person/manager/boss to have in your own life. Jodie was just – the best – to have around and always so helpful. Thankful to have had people like him in my life to be an ‘example setter’ for all of us.

I will never forget the time and moments I was able to spend with Jodie. From our earliest days in Spanish Fork competing in sports, to an epic bike ride in which Jodie shared with me his wisdom and knowledge about how to train and ride in the Lotoja. I still can’t believe he did it 10 times! Jodie was a true friend to everyone. He had the look of a warrior and the heart of a poet. Thank you for your kindness and strength and your friendship to me Jodie. I love you and will miss you. My sincerest condolences to you Aimee and your family. Jodie will always be with us.

Beautifully written and an absolute capture of the Jodie we know and love! He was my first professional mentor, gave me a safe space to learn the world of high tech and travel. We went to DC, checked out a pub or two, then attended the final four in Texas before he handed me off to his beautiful wife for the next step in my career that paved the way for what has become my path as 20+ years in CRM tech from Siebel to Oracle. I mean really – I wish I had that knack to snag the next leaders of our world in business! We found true friends in his younger SIL and traveled to Europe together, what feels like a lifetime ago yet is still so sacred to us! We cannot thank Jodie and his family enough. Sending you all of our most sincere love ~ Ryan and Beth

I just saw the news about Jodie’s passing and want to send my prayers and deepest condolences to Aimie and the entire Mattinson family.
Jodie and I were very close during our school years, and I have a lot of fond memories of driving around in our Chevy Luv trucks and jamming to the hair bands of the day.
Jodie also worked on and off for my dad and we had some good times delivering milk around the area and taking our weekly delivery to North SLC which we always had to stop at Aimie’s dance lessons on the way home.
Jodie was a good friend, and I will always cherish the good times we had in our youth.
