With great sadness, we announce the passing of Jess Dale Kenney, who peacefully passed on December 29, 2024. Jess was born in Provo, Utah on November 14, 1977, to his loving parents, Garth and Jann Kenney.
Jess is survived by his parents, sister Julie Kenney of Payson, and his brother Jon (Megan) Kenney of Hyde Park, UT. He was a cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews: Sadie (Joshua), Olivia, Seth, and Krew. Raised in Payson, Utah, Jess graduated from Payson High School. He worked at Payson Market and has since spent the last 16 years at Good Earth Markets, where he valued his relationships with both coworkers and customers. Jess shared special bonds with his cousins, aunts, and uncles and enjoyed spending time with his childhood friend Joe Torres.
Jess was a genuinely kind and sweet soul whose warmth and positivity could brighten even the dullest days. His life was filled with countless friendships and unforgettable moments, he always had a genuine love for meeting new people and an extraordinary gift for making others smile. Jess’ kind heart and warm smile touched many lives, reminding us of the importance of positivity and connection. In his memory, let us embrace new friendships and cherish the connections we make along the way. Though he will be dearly missed, the joy and love he shared will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him, ensuring that his light never fades.
Jess had a passion for creating lasting memories and embarking on adventures with his family. Whether it was exploring the great outdoors, setting up camp beneath the stars, or hiking through breathtaking landscapes, he found joy in every moment spent with loved ones. His love for music was infectious, often filling the air with his favorite tunes, creating a soundtrack for the memorable times shared together.
Another one of Jess’s simple pleasures was enjoying a warm cup of coffee. It was a small ritual that set the tone of the day, and we all knew he couldn’t start a morning without it. Likewise, if you knew Jess, you knew his love of colognes. He had a talent for choosing the perfect scent, always leaving a refreshing trail that made him memorable wherever he went.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Huntsman Hospital for their compassionate care and dedication during Jess’s short stay there. We are also deeply thankful to his many friends and loved ones who have been a part of his life and supported him through this journey.
A funeral service for close family and friends will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Walker Funeral Home located at 587 South 100 West in Payson, Utah. A visitation for all family and friends will be on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 6-8:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Payson City Cemetery, 400 North 800 East, Payson, Utah.

January 3, 2025 at 4:05 amDear Jann and Garth, So sorry to hear about your kind and beautiful boy, Jess. When he was working at Payson Market he’d always stop and chat with us, then I would say, “Tell your mom I said Hi!” Not sure if he did or not. Then I saw him working at Good Earth awhile ago and we had another nice chat. He was smiling and happy and he never complained, and that’s how we’ll always remember him. I hope he’s enjoying the coffee wherever he is. Love to you and your family

March 12, 2025 at 9:45 pmJust today I learned of Jess’ passing. So sad, I am so sorry. I knew him from Good Earth, way back when, when the store was still in East Bay in Provo, and then also in Spanish Fork. Jess always had a smile on his face, no matter how busy the store was. He always had time to warmly greet the customers, and have a quick chat. Jess was a true staple of that store. Jess was genuinely kind and a welcoming person. I will miss not seeing him around. Rest in peace, Jess.
