On the morning of Saturday, June 22, 2024, Jerry Morganson Tanner, passed away at his home after battling health challenges recently. He was born December 18, 1946, in Payson, Utah to William Ray Tanner and Grace Morganson Tanner, the first of three children. He grew up in rural Payson with his sister, Sandra, and brother, Lynn Brent.
Jerry served in the United States Navy for four years during the Vietnam Conflict.
He has a daughter named Chandra.
Jerry attended school in Payson, graduating from Payson High School. He then attended Provo Utah Tech (now Utah Valley University) to study auto mechanics. Jerry spent his working years at US Geneva Steel and as a miner. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He liked going out to the west desert to watch the wild horses. He also enjoyed guns and target shooting.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Grace, and his brother, Lynn Brent. He is survived by his sister, Sandra Tanner of Payson, Utah, and his daughter, Chandra Thomas of Colorado. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christs of Latter-day Saints located at 902 West 400 North in Payson, Utah. Prior to the service, there will be visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Interment with military honors will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park and Cemetery, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah.
