Jerry Lynn Barber, known fondly as “Papa” by his loved ones, passed away on May 23, 2025, at home in Elk Ridge, Utah surrounded by loved ones. Born to James Grady and Ruth Marie Winfield Barber on November 13, 1949, in Florence, Arizona, Jerry’s life was marked by humble roots, an enduring spirit, and a heart brimming with kindness. His journey began in the quiet town of Coolidge and led him to a life full of love, family, and service.
Jerry was a talented man with a diverse range of interests and abilities. His love for music shone brightly, his voice echoing in the hearts of many as he sang in quartettes and choirs over the years. He was a collector and seller of antiques; Jerry also found joy on the basketball court, where he served as a respected referee for high school games for four decades.
He began his career as a security officer at Central Arizona College, worked as a police dispatcher with Coolidge Police Department, then served Shamrock Foods as a Sales Manager for 30 years before retiring. His professional journey was marked by hard work, dedication, and a sincere commitment to serving others.
Jerry was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many roles over the years, his favorite being in Primary. Jerry’s most cherished role was that of a family man. He was a devoted husband to Cathryn Wheeler Barber, who he married on September 16, 1973, in Casa Grande, Arizona. Jerry was a loving father to Jeremy (Niki) Barber, Jason (Cami) Barber, and Suzie (Ray) Cook-Rivera. His legacy will continue to shine brightly through his nine grandchildren: Cameron, Danilynn, J.J., Marly, Lydia, Grady, Caitlin, Megan, and Charlie, his brother Charlie (Cecille) Barber, and brothers-in-law Randy (Dana) Wheeler and Rodney (Jennie) Wheeler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Barbara (Darrell) Sherill, Gene (Etha) Barber, Danny Lynn Barber, and in-laws Jack Wheeler and Allene Wheeler.
The family will privately celebrate Jerry’s life at a later date. Condolences may be offered on Jerry’s memorial page or mailed to 725 North Kasen Circle, Elk Ridge, Utah, 84651.
