Jerry Eugene Loreen, the son of Malcolm and Helen Loreen, died on December 10, 2020, at his home in Spanish Fork, Utah. Jerry was a long-time resident of the state of Washington. After having health complications with cancer, he stayed with his son, Mark, to get the care he needed; and then, moved to Utah this last year so his son, Jeff and family, could help further his care.
Jerry was raised in Sumas, Washington, and graduated from Nooksack Valley High School, where he played basketball. Jerry served as a captain in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed in Germany. He holds degrees from the University of Washington and Western Washington. Jerry was an audiologist for the Seattle Speech and Hearing Center and Highline School District in Seattle. He loved his job because he was able to work with students of all ages and was able to make a tremendous difference in their lives. After his retirement, he moved to Long Beach, Washington.
He was a happy, positive, good-natured, and friendly person that loved his family. He loved his brother, Jim, and enjoyed sharing stories of them growing up. He was a proud father of two sons, Mark and Jeff, and spent a great deal of time with them. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He would never let a moment pass by without expressing how great they were and how much he cared for them. Jerry was also a life-long Seahawks fan and has been a season ticket holder since their inception in 1976. Go Hawks!
Jerry had a remarkable ability of making friends and taking genuine interest in the lives of others. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making folks laugh with his practical jokes. He loved and cared for his family; but, also anyone that came across his path. Jerry embodied kindness and friendship.
He is survived by his two sons: Mark Loreen (Alex Ashley), Jeff (Cynthia) Loreen; and a brother, Jim (Reenie) Loreen; along with eight grandkids and three great-grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a little sister, Bonnie.
A viewing will be held at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden, Washington, on Saturday, December 19, 2020, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. A Graveside Memorial will follow at Noon at Lakeside Cemetery.
