On Thursday, July 4, 2019, Jerry Alan Sandbakken, loving husband, father, and friend passed away suddenly at the age of 59, from a heart attack. Jerry was born on May 25, 1960, in Sisseton, South Dakota, to Sanford Sandbakken and Leila Jean Bartnick. He married Janine Romrell on May 6, 1983, for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. He attended BYU and was employed there in accounts payable for over 32 years and was awarded multiple times for excellent service.
Jerry was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities including ward clerk, youth leader, high councilman, and bishop. He had a talent for making the youth and other members he worked with feel included and valued. Jerry enjoyed improving his home, spending time with his grandchildren, and having new adventures with his sweetheart wife. Known for his sense of humor, mustache (for many years), and twinkling blue eyes, Jerry was an influence for good in his family, church, work, and community. He was a dutiful son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and, most importantly, husband.
Jerry’s greatest legacy is his family, including his six children: Taylor James (Maria McKenzie), Tressa Jean (Joshua Hart), Taryn Joy (Alex Barlow), Taft Jerry (Emily Pettitt), Tanner Joseph, and Tucker John. He and Janine have 15 (soon to be 16) grandchildren. He leaves behind his mother, Leila; and sister, Shirley Ann Smith; and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sanford Sandbakken; his step-father, Edward Duane Hughes; and brother, Gary Reuben Sandbakken.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at Noon at the LDS Chapel on 1750 East 750 South, Spanish Fork, Utah.
