Jay D Rindlisbacher January 15, 1941 - November 6, 2019

Jay D. Rindlisbacher, 78, of Spanish Fork, died Wednesday, November 6, 2019 in Payson, Utah.  He was born January 15, 1941 to Leroy Alma and Isabell Nielsen Rindlisbacher in Millville, Cache Valley, Utah.  He was the last of 11 children:  Lee, Reed, Bert, Annabelle, Dean, Ilene, LaMay, Ruth, June, Fern and Jay.  He has a sister, Fern Evans, and one sister-in-law, Ila Peterson, surviving.

Jay married his sweetheart, Maureen Thomas, in 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple.  They are the parents of Lori (Steven Matson) of Forrest, IL, and Jennifer (Shane Waters) of Santaquin, UT.

Jay received his education in Millville, South Cache High School, Payson High School, Dixie Jr. College, College of Southern Utah, and Brigham Young University.  He was in the first 4-year program at CSU graduating with a B.A. Degree.

He taught and coached in North Las Vegas for two years.  He retired from Spanish Fork High School after 30 years.  He taught American Studies, German, coached football, wrestling, track and field, cross country, and swimming.  He also worked for the Spanish Fork Recreation Department as director of the swimming pool and teacher of hunter safety.  After Jay retired, he joined the Spanish Fork Senior Citizens.  He served on the board of directors and as a bus driver for the disabled.  He was an avid BYU fan

Jay was called to serve in the Switzerland-Austria Mission for 2 ½ years.  He has served in bishoprics in Leland Ward and 7th Ward.  Jay was bishop for 5 years.  He also served on the high councils in two stakes.  He loved temple work.  He served in the Provo and Payson Temples as an ordinance worker.  He loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ, his family, and his country.

Jay’s greatest joy was his family.  He has 12 grandchildren, who called him Opa:  Tiffany J. Custer, LaMaun Alex Matson, Whitney Hendershot, Sydney Hoffmann, Shaelyn Knuteson, Daphne Barson, Zachary Matson, Emily J. Waters, Elizabeth Waters, Logan Waters, Hyrum Waters, and Johanna Waters.  Jay has five great grandchildren- Linkoln, Emerson, and Bennett Custer, Michael Hendershot, Raelynn Knuteson, and Zayden D. Hoffmann.

All of the children have learned to fish, hunt, and swim.  Jay was always ready for a good game of cards with the children and former teachers.  Fond memories and lots of fun have been made at Scofield at Paul’s Cabin and Grandpa’s Cabin.  The annual birthday trip to St. George will not be the same without Opa.  The annual Rindlisbacher Swim Party Reunion has always brought the family together.

The family would like to thank the Spanish Fork Ambulance members for the quick response and the kind and loving ER staff at Mt. View Hospital.  Jay received excellent care this year from home-health nurses, Jessica and Tom.  His doctors have given Jay special care and we thank them sincerely:  Dr. Nolan Money, Dr. David Wang, Dr. David Perry, Becca Mackintosh and her nurse Samantha.
