Jay C. Hair September 18, 1949 - January 15, 2021

Our husband, father, grandfather and best friend, Clarence Jay Hair, returned to his Heavenly Father on January 15, 2021, in the ICU at Provo UVRMC, from COVID-19 pneumonia, and kidney failure.

Jay was born on September 18, 1949, to Joseph August, and Lois Makin Hair in Orem, Utah. He attended Provo and Orem schools.

On June 14, 1974, Jay married Kathryn Youd, in Lake Shore, Utah, and they were later sealed as an eternal family on July 23, 1975, in the Provo, Utah Temple.

Jay worked as a carpet installer, built his own home and retired from the IHC hospital construction department. Jay and his son, Jared, started a machine shop in Jay’s back yard, and later moved to a bigger location. They are currently in the process of building a new, larger shop.  He loved working along with his sons, daughter, grandsons, granddaughters, and his friends.

He loved to be challenged with building or fixing things. His rock crawler, dune buggy, jeep and 3-wheelers always kept him busy.  He loved to be at the sand dunes or rock crawling with his family, grandchildren and friends.  That was when he was the happiest.   During his life, he had many friends whom he loved dearly, and he would do anything for them.  Jay and Kathy spent many winters in Arizona being snowbirds. They traveled to many places but had best times while being with their family.

Jay’s family knew they were his top priority. He and Kathy taught their children the value of hard work, honesty, kindness, and how the influence of one person can have an effect on so many people.  We will continue to carry on his legacy and make him proud.  We love him, are so proud of him, and will miss him every day.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; son, Jared (Sonya) Hair; daughter Michele Hair; son, Byron (Ali) Hair; and son, Aaron (Kamie) Hair; their 16 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Also survived by his brother, Doug (Kathy) Hair; sisters: Jody (Conrad) Huff, Juliee Pierce, and Janet (Robert) Winters; his father in-law, Lynn Youd; brothers in-law, Jay (Mary Ann) Youd, and Steven (Konni) Youd; sisters in-law, Charlene (Dale) Koyle, and Linda Youd; and many nieces and nephews. Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Lois Hair; his brother, Jerry Hair; and three nephews: Billy Jo, and Ty Topham and Jeff Baker; his mother-in- law, Beverly Youd; and two brothers-in-law, Roger Youd and Rhedd (Duane) Youd; and nephew, Michael Koyle.

We would like to thank the ICU nurses, doctors and staff at Utah Valley Hospital for their brave and endless care to take care of Jay. You have the hardest jobs and are our heroes.

To the entire Hair family. I am so sorry for your loss. Jay was a wonderful man and a great cousin. I remember when we went to Yellowstone I hit him in the head with a tree branch. He was so sweet about it!

My heart is broken. Rabbit was a kind and truly good man. He was a great support to me when Marty was sick and then died. I sure appreciate all he did for me and I will be lost without him and his big smile. He was the only one who could make me laugh anymore. His passing is a great lost to the world. Deepest sympathy.

I just found this today. Jay was my cousin. His dad was my Uncle Joe, brother of my mom Maureen Gregory. Although I have not seen Jay in many years I am profoundly sadden from the loss of family. I wish that I could have found him years ago and reminisced.
