Janice Lindsey Funeral Service

Janice Ann Lindsey, age 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Payson, Utah, on August 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 1, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Cletus Kenneth (Pete) Schroeder and Jane Prichard Berry. She was the eldest of their two children.

Janice developed a love for music at an early age. She began taking piano lessons around the age of six, soon after learning to read, and continued her musical education throughout her elementary and high school years.

At just 12 years old, after graduating from Primary in 1960, Janice was called to serve as the Junior Sunday School pianist. Around 1962, she was also called as the assistant ward organist. She faithfully served in both callings until graduating from Interboro High School (Glenolden, PA) in 1966.

Following graduation, Janice attended the St. Louis Conservatory of Music in Missouri during the summer before enrolling at Ricks College (now Brigham Young University-Idaho), where she studied from 1966 to 1967.

On September 1, 1967, she married Richard Charles Lindsey whom she knew from childhood. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. The couple began their married life in an apartment in Provo, Utah. Within a few years, they rented a piano with the option to purchase it, and Janice soon began teaching piano lessons, launching what would become a lifelong passion and career.

In the fall of 1972, Janice and Richard moved to Payson, Utah, where she began teaching a small group of piano students. Over the years, her studio grew to include hundreds of students, with as many as 30 enrolled at one time. Dedicated to lifelong learning, Janice continued studying piano technique and music theory under instructors with advanced degrees, continually refining her skills. She generously shared that knowledge with her students, several of whom went on to become piano teachers themselves.

Janice possessed an extraordinary musical gift. She could sight-read virtually any hymn or song from the Hymns or Children’s Songbook without preparation and was equally adept at “cold reading” classical piano works with remarkable accuracy and expression.

Her talents extended well beyond her private studio. Throughout the Payson community, Janice served as accompanist for the Choralais Women’s Ensemble, Chantilly Lace, the Payson Junior High School Choir, the Payson Community Theater, and countless soloists, vocalists, musicians, and community performers. She also faithfully served as a Primary pianist and ward organist through numerous ward reorganizations, continuing in those callings until 2021, when she was released at the age of 73 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Janice served faithfully in many leadership and service callings throughout her life. Among her most cherished assignments were Ward Relief Society President, Primary President, Cultural Arts Specialist, Choir Accompanist, and member of the Stake Primary Presidency.

Janice also gave generously of her time to her community, serving in the PTA and as Secretary of the Payson High School Band Boosters.

Janice is survived by her beloved husband, Richard; her four children: Laurie (Ray) Donaldson of Mesa, Arizona; Susan Lindsey Mikesell of Salem, Utah; Steven (Wendy) Lindsey of Orem, Utah; and Karen (Adam) Gilbert of Lehi, Utah. She is also survived by her former sons-in-law, Samuel Reed Kennedy, and Kirk Jeffrey Mikesell; her former daughter-in-law, Donna Henderson Dansie; her 16 grandchildren; her 6 great-grandchildren; and her brother, John (Cindy) Schroeder of Pleasant Hill, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents Cletus and Jane Schroeder; her half-sister, Denise Meekins; and grandson, Joshua Gilbert.
