James Allen Schneider October 14, 1946 - October 21, 2021

James Allen Schneider, 75, passed away on October 21, 2021, in Elk Ridge, Utah. James was born to Norman Edward and Gay Betty Schneider on October 14, 1946, in Pasadena, California, where he grew up in a loving family and had many happy memories.

After graduating high school, James served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany.  After returning from his mission, in 1969, he enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served until 1971. After being discharged, James attended the University of Southern California (USC) and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Astronomy and another in Physics. He continued to serve our country from 1978-1986 as a reservist in the National Guard. Years later, he returned to college and earned a Masters Degree in International Relations.

Jim married Crystal Carol Miller on June 13, 1974 in Los Angeles, California. They had two sons, Ian and Dietrich, and two daughters, Wendy and Amanda. He worked hard to provide for his family. He moved his family to Maryland where he was employed as a Signals Analyst with the National Security Agency from 1978 to 2012. As part of his work, he and his family also spent 3 years in Germany in 1983 and 3 years in Australia in 1993 where they had many happy memories.

As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, James faithfully served his ward and stake in many roles that included: ward clerk, gospel doctrine teacher, high priests group leader, and as a genealogist.

He enjoyed watching USC football (Go Trojans!), reading books, doing Sudoku puzzles, and listening to classical music. He was interested in model trains, history, genealogy, and science fiction and fantasy.

The brightest spot in James’ life was his grandchildren. He was blessed with nine wonderful grandchildren, with whom he loved spending time and making them know how loved they were.

James is survived by his wife, Crystal; sons: Ian Schneider, Baltimore, Maryland; and Dietrich Schneider, Houston, Texas; daughters: Wendy Kelley, and Amanda Schneider, College Park, Maryland; sisters: L. Susie Perrett, Salem, Utah; and Nancy Glenn, Washington, Utah; brother, John Schneider, San Marcos, California.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 29, 2021, at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 7231 Ritchie Highway, Glen Burnie, MD 21061. Interment will follow.

I never knew Jimmy all that well – just for a short while in the early to mid 1970s through my good friend Russell, Jimmy’s cousin, while all three of us were at USC – but he seemed to me to be a good guy. About a dozen years later, I was living and working in Bavaria about an hour east of Munich. Russell must have told Jimmy where I was, because one Saturday morning in spring of 1985, there was a knock at the door, and it was Jimmy Schneider paying me a visit.

I am very sorry I missed the graveside service for Jim. I always admired him for his extensive knowledge and understanding of the the gospel. I had the privilege of serving with him in several church callings and he was always faithful in his duties. He loved his family and sacrificed much for them. I am a better person for knowing Jim.
