Irene Elizabeth Cook Nelson, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, in Sandy, Utah, at the age of 57.
Born on December 19, 1967, in Provo, Utah, Irene was the cherished daughter of Robert and Ardis Cook. She grew up between Provo, Utah, and Meridian, Idaho, where she graduated from Meridian High School – laying the foundation for a life filled with care, connection, and strength.
Irene worked for a time as an orthodontist’s assistant, but spent her life as a caregiver to those around her. Her generous heart, and her loving presence were deeply comforting to all who knew her.
She lived for the great outdoors and the joyful chaos of family gatherings. Whether camping, fishing, solving puzzles, enjoying live music, or screaming at a football game, she lived with a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys.
Irene dedicated her life to her family. She spent her adult life raising her kids with Matt, and then caring for her mom Ardis. She is survived by her children Maddi, Scott, Nick, Baylie, and Christopher; her two grandchildren Pennie and Nellie, who lit up her world; and her siblings Don, Randy, Roger, Steve, and Russ – each a chapter in her story of love and loyalty.
Her life was an example of selfless service, genuine laughter, and unwavering love. She leaves behind a legacy that will live on in every campfire story, football cheer, and well- worn paperback book passed between loved ones.
Irene’s spirit will echo in our hearts forever.
A visitation will be held in Irene’s honor on Friday, August 1, 2025 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home located at 187 South Main St. Spanish Fork, Utah. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 275 South 1400 East, Spanish Fork, UT.
